Good news for those that keep their phones for multiple years. It made sense for them to do this.
Amazing news
Google touts “5 years of Pixel updates” on existing Tensor-powered devices
But will it still overheat while wasting the battery doing nothing so I have to charge it in the middle of the day? Both my Pixel 6 and 7 had horrific battery life. I don’t think I should give them another chance tbh.
I had Pixel 6 (2 of them thanks to my wife accidentally yeeting mine from our second story balcony) and currently have 7 pro. My battery life was/is fine on both models. Haven’t charged my phone since I took it off the charger and it’s sitting at 55%, granted it was a light use day. Usually finishes somewhere between 30-40%.
My pixel 2 and 3 had okay and shit battery life (respectively) for comparison. Switched to OnePlus after the 3 for a few years.

That’s… how chargers work
Jk
Probably not the right phone for you. Battery life in my experience has been average for me. Not great, but not awful either.
Reviews and personal experiences have been all over the place regarding the battery from what I’ve seen in reviews, social media, and forums. It just depends. The Pixel 7 Pro’s battery has been about the same as the 14 Pro Max that I had, but worse than the 13 Pro Max. Better than the Pixel Fold that I’m using, but not as good as the Pixel 4 XL. For sure better than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from back in the day, but not as good as my HTC 10. Definitely not as good as the Pixel 5, but better than the Pixel 6 Pro. And so forth and so on…
Depends on my personal usage, but I’m on my phone constantly. For me, battery has been middle of the road.
Pixel 5 really was peak battery for me.
On the other hand, one has to admit that the snappiness wasn’t comparable to that of a 6Pro/7Pro (not to mention the smaller, 90Hz only display)
Same. Camera was also great, but slow as you mentioned due to the processor. Couldn’t take more than a couple of pictures without stalling to process said pictures. Still was my fav along with the Nexus 5. Pixel 3 XL, Nexus 6, and Pixel 6 Pro being my least fav.
It’s weird because every Pixel I’ve had has had awful battery life. Pixel 2, 5, 6, and 7. But, in between those I’ve used different OnePlus phones and they had great battery life. I loved my OnePlus 7 Pro.
I dunno what to say besides being anecdotal also by saying my experience differs… especially with the P5.
I’m not surprised with Oneplus’ battery being better as they’re notorious for background app killing. It’s the reason why I’ve only had a couple of Oneplus’ phones throughout the years.
Oh, I know it’s anecdotal. I also know others have issues with the Pixel 6 and 7 getting really hot.

Yeah, that’s true. They definitely are aggressive at app killing. The thing is I can’t tell what is using the battery in the background on the Pixels.

Yep… fully aware of some saying their devices are getting hot. My Pixel 6 Pro got hot exactly once while navigating here in LA. Not sure what caused it, but it was hot to the point that I had to hold it to one of the ac vents. My 7 Pro got only slightly warm occasionally and I’m having similar experiences with the Fold. Not to say that it’s a normal thing, but it’s hot to the extent that others have experienced.
It’s like the fingerprint sensor complaint. I could repeatedly get my prints to register without fail when some others were having issues. I’m almost worried that Google is switching to an ultrasonic sensor instead of optical because I haven’t had the same luck with the ultrasonic sensor that Samsung used in the S21 Ultra and S23 Ultra. I dunno. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Anyhow, hope that your next phone, Pixel or otherwise, treats you better.
The first pixel was incredible and Google has been coasting on that clout for nearly a decade.
I would take it further back, the first Nexus was amazing and they haven’t been anywhere near as ground breaking since.
I got the pixel 7 not even a year ago and it’s on its last leg. Bottom speaker is dead, OS freaks out when you swipe menus from the top or bottom of the screen, Bluetooth is fucked, battery lasts not even half a day in my pocket.
Every Google product I’ve owned has been some dogshit hardware with a bunch of fancy software to try and make up for it. And every Google product I’ve owned has been awful.
…And every Google product I’ve owned has been awful…
I don’t get it. “Every Google product I’ve owned” makes it sound like you’ve owned a lot of Google products. But every single one you’ve “owned has been awful”.
Why do you continue buying Google products if they’ve been awful… for you? Maybe Google isn’t the right OEM for you? I mean, no one is forcing you to buy their products if they’re “awful”, right?
