Literally me when visiting my mum and there are no visitors slippers*. I’ll just take whatever she has lying about and go downstairs to help her haha! I always thought I was being weird so it’s nice to see this post!
If you’re doing this intentionally or if your dialect has this different I’d love to know (I love learning about different dialects of English), but as far as i’m aware I think you mean “slippers.”

You can’t find your shoes so you put on whatever is nearby.
Or you cna find your shoes, but they have lace and you will have to un lace,slide your foot, and lace it up before you can be functional, so you just take a random pair of shoes and go out.
