from the Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections book. The original (Millenium Falcon in the cover) or this updated version.
Reminds me of all those cut aways my dad had posted up in his shot of medieval castles and ships. They always had one guy pooping somewhere. Instinctively looked for the guy pooping in this one.
Stephen Biesty?
Hell yeah. I remember we had these books when we were kids. I loved to just look and see the inner workings of the machines and vehicles used in Star Wars.
I think we had three of them, one or two for the prequels, and one or two for the originals, but I don’t remember for sure.
Incredibly inefficient design
But very cool!
General Veers would like a word.
f in chat for Davin Felth.
I remember this page from a book I had growing up. What’s neat is the UCS Lego set of this has the blue seats. I forgot about this cutaway so I was wondering why they chose blue. Now it makes sense.
Playing the pen and paper rpg in the 90s, we had a lot of those books. Weaponry, vehicles etc, they were soooo good
The scale seems off. I remember these things being much larger compared to the height of a human.
Anybody got a version of this with some more pixels?
Sorry I know the resolution for the text isn’t great. If this was a book in my collection I’d had take a few close up shots. But the art was too good not to share.
Forgot to mention it walks like a goofy camel
How exactly would the troopers be deployed on the battlefield?
Glad to see I’m not the only person who thought of the image
They rappel down.
Please don’t ask how they get the speeder bikes out of the garage. That depends. In games, usually the Troops rappel down.
When it comes to the speeders, they either fly out and glide down or the AT-AT might be capable of “sitting down” like a horse/camel.
The toe actuators seem overbuilt and overcomplicated
Check out all the other parts.
Where does the woodoo hide go?
It’s donated to the Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Center.
Theres a dedicated fan called Adywan whose made his own special edition version of the trilogy tastefully adding more effects.
Here’s a clip from his version of the Hoth battle where he incorporates the side panel revealing troops inside. (Yes I know the aspect ratio is wrong, not my clip. 😁)
What about all the skinny maintenance sections you crawl through in fallen order?
Yes, this is awesome.
Anyone know the source? Are there different editions/prints to worry about if one were to go looking for the book(s) themselves?
It’s from the Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections book. The original (Millenium Falcon in the cover) or this updated version.
I probably should have put that in the thread opening. I am realizing I’m quite bad at this internet threading.
Thanks!
I had the book with this illustration as a kid! It was one of my favorites along with the Death Star.
Yes the cutaway style is great. I wish I had the full book because I know it has tons of different entries.
It’s too heavy for repulsor lifts? What do the spaceships use then? Why don’t at-ats use that technology then?
Whenever you notice something like that, a space wizard did it.
Or really shitty space engineers.
The jedi had nothing to do with this
Energy/cost efficiency.
“A powerful reactor provides the raw energy to move this weighty battle machine”
7 trillion moving parts are suddenly the better solution?
How do they move these things from planet to planet?
