I really don’t get this ‘humour’. What is happening? It’s not even funny because it’s absurd, ‘cos it’s never absurd enough. It’s like the comic equivalent of looking at a Facebook Minions meme.
Props on the edits though, they’re clean.
I think that’s part of the point. It’s someone’s job to make the original comic.
Removing the titular protagonist should ruin a work. Removing them here does absolutely nothing. It makes no more or less sense, despite losing a core component. One would hope a comic in widespread syndication would fare better.
At least with memes when they’re inevitably bad, it’s probably someone fucking around, not a paid professional.
Expecting a joke from a Heathcliff comic is expecting something non-dadaism from a dada work.
Another helmet one? I don’t understand this shit, these people put helmets on of what they’re going to do or what they like?
It’s helmet week… He runs in themes. We just had sculpture week
Man, this cartoonist is living the life. Just spin a wheel to pick a random theme, crank out a few shitty comics, and collect a check.
I think it’s beautiful. I believe it’s the original author’s son who kind of inherited the brand and still collects a paycheck so now he’s gone really abstract and avant-garde with these theme weeks and weird anti-joke panels.
It’s a symbol of how broken print media is that once you have a position there are no quality checks, no competition, or consequences.
These comics aren’t avant-garde they’re just meaningless, he’s not pushing any envelope or frontier it’s just lazy unfunny junk because that’s what all the cartoons have become.
His nephew.
I wonder if any newspaper still pays for these.
What’s a newspaper?
Dont worry about it. Where do you get your original comics?
I usually end up getting them from a particular Facebook group where they’re published shortly after 4:00 p.m. The day before. There’s also a secret website where all comics are published the day before and that’s where the Facebook group pulls it from.
