Funny political comment aside - As a European I only knew about the New York style before. Although usually with roasted onions. Which is a shame, because especially the Chicago one looks awesome! What is the filling in the Miami variant?
They don’t roll themselves up into a compact ball and lay still when feeling threatened.
Hedgehogs do that.
I have already several times kicked hedgehogs across the lawn in the dark because of this behaviour (involuntarily of course)
Thanks, now I get what the date is meaning here!
ln the traditional wood-pulp -based newspaper it really still stands out between all the “real” photos.
But these kind of images will increasingly also be crawling in there, replacing generic illustrations.
Thought exactly the same.
“They paid money for… THAT??”
“Trierischer Volksfreund”. (It’s less ominous than it sounds 😉)
Western part of the Rhineland.
Today’s issue.
I don’t know.
For me it had this instant slight creepiness the moment I looked at the page it was part of.
Quick look at fingers and clothes just confirmed it.

Not quite sure this is the right place to post it, but I stumbled upon an article illustrated with this.
Newspaper is the main one in my area with lots of subscriptions and sold at every kiosk.
What’s your kill count in the trolley problem?
It’s not the looking-at-th-screen-thing, but rather the switching-the-camera-on-in-the-first-place-thing, the understanding-anything-at-all-while-the-screen-is-covered-in-people-thing and the not-being-a-total-exhausted-mess-who-needs-an-hourlong-pause-to-function-again-afterwards -thing.
So no, wouldn’t be useful, I am afraid.
Oh no, not that discussion again…
Just look at the right side of the thermometer in the image and forget all the over-complicated units of measurement from olden times, be it Fahrenheit, Celsius or some obscure eastern European equivalents.
They are all equally crappy definitions, if we are honest.
I am afraid I have to burn you back.
I speak SI, and that is actually the reason, why I questioned the metric on the right. You see, milli Electron Volt per Kelvin is neither a unit of temperature, nor does it make any other sense in this context that I am aware of.
But the thing is I just realized that there is no “Kelvin” on the right side, because the “K” in reality is a “k”. Would have been clearer if they had used the subscript kB, as in “Boltzmann-Konstante”.
Now it makes perfect sense, although it still is a somewhat weird unit to express a human body temperature in…
You are right, of course.
But I didn’t even notice the red gauge you are referring to because I was way too distracted by the temperature range and especially unit of measurement on the right… milli Electron Volts per Kelvin… yeah, ok…
WTF is that thermometer image supposed to show?
We have several hotels and company canteens that sell you what is left of breakfast buffet or lunch meals.
You have to bring your own food containers and get it filled to the brim with whatever didn’t go so well that day for a fraction of the price you would normally pay there.
Local tax office canteen saved us a lot of cooking ourselves that way :-)
Exotic or unusual ingredients you wouldn’t normally use for cooking.
Often also excessive amounts e.g. of bakery stuff that you have no chance of eating yourself and now have to try and distribute it among your friends and neighbours. :-)
Aaaand they prevent food waste as most of the surplus would be thrown away otherwise.
We have been using Too-Good-To-Go for quite a while now as well as local merchant’s initiatives.
It is also fun trying to figure out what to do with the stuff you got!
