  • Agreed, where I was growing up in the U.S. we had a bunch of regional parts manufacturers and Boeing contracts were always prized My dad was a union guy working at one of those factories for a while before it got bought out by a larger multinational corp. AFAIK they ended up shifting a lot of that manufacturing out of the U.S. into Mexico while downsizing the U.S. operations. That’s kind of how it goes in that industry :/

  • Talk to families of unjustified imprisoned people or to the people itself.

Do you actually know & speak to people in El Salvador? Pretty much everyone I know there (family/friends) are ecstatic that there are no more gang members running around unchecked. The country is safer now then it has been in years.

Nothing is perfect of course, poverty is still a major issue, but not having to deal with gang members every time you ride the bus, go out shopping, even just drive around, it’s a huge deal over there.

Sure I get what you’re saying but for most people there it’s been a positive development.

But since he just imprisoned everyone and their relatives, its only a temporary fix – unless he wants to imprison them for life.

True… to be honest I suspect those people are imprisoned for life. No one expects gang members to be let out of prison while Bukele is still running the country, that’s going to be something that gets revisited when/if he’s out of office. It’s a massive human rights issue but at least for now the majority of Salvadorans consider it a net positive.

The funny thing is that this article is about bitcoin & most Salvadorans don’t particularly care about that at all, it’s just kind of a headline that isn’t going to win/lose Bukele any support in the short term at least.

  • That’s annoying… even doing a Startup Repair with the Windows 11 USB doesn’t repair it and get it starting up? Thinking on a normal install all this should have already worked, makes me wonder if Bitlocker is somehow a culprit here.

But I guess worst case is to back up your data, do a fresh install of Windows 11, restore your data/re-install applications & move on. At some point that’s going to end up being faster than troubleshooting failed cloning attempts.

That sort of looks right, did the old SSD have the same configuration? According to that partition list you also have an extra partition, maybe a Lenovo recovery/repair partition or something bitlocker related. Your old SSD probably has p1 or p2 a bootable.

Overall you don’t need to do it this way but what I’d do roughly speaking…

    1. Format the new SSD, make sure the partition style is the same as old SSD (GPT vs MBR) - Maybe Clonezilla already takes care of that? I can’t remember offhand
    2. Note which partition is active/bootable on the old SSD
    3. Use Clonezilla to clone the whole drive, all partitions
    4. Make sure the newly cloned SSD has the correct active/bootable partition
    5. Go into your BIOS, make sure the newly installed drive is still the first/second boot device (on a laptop it should be, in theory) - second if you want to keep your USB drives booting first for troubleshooting
    6. Try to boot up - If Windows still isn’t coming up then boot into your Windows 11 USB and try to “repair” the Windows install e.g. instead of installing try to go into Repair, Troubleshoot, Startup Repair

PS - Probably not what you want but worst case you can do a clean install of Windows 11 & then manually copy over your data (back up first!). Maybe not ideal but at least you’ll have a fresh install to work with.

  • What I’d do is double-check which partition is marked as bootable/active on the old SSD, then after cloning make sure the new SSD is configured the same. On a Windows 10/11 boot USB you can usually go into the command line & run diskpart to do those things, alternatively you do the same in Linux if you’re already using that instead.

I don’t think cloning disks would necessarily mark any partitions as bootable so that’s an extra step you may need to do.

Clonezilla typically works well enough when you’re doing the entire drive though I’ve never needed to tinker with bitlocker so can’t say if that changes things.

  • Citi Double Cash 2% for most purchases

Citi Custom Cash for specific 5% categories I can target, though in practice I usually use it for groceries

Discover Cash Back / Chase Freedom Flex for the rotating 5% categories

Personally I don’t travel enough to bother with travel rewards cards but maybe that’s an option for other people.

PS - I’ve found that Discover usually has higher discounted gift cards if you wind up using your cash back towards that, sometimes it works out better than just doing cash back against your balance.

  • But the benefits of sending replicas is WAY larger than possibly losing the link.

I thought that at first too but I got the impression that the replicas aren’t self operating - Basically they “sleep” the entire time their human host isn’t plugged into it. The families on earth must spend a lot of time alone without the astronauts but at least their replica allows them to visit more frequently, I guess? That also implies the space station needs to be staffed 24/7 for the most part hence why the humans are up there.

Also agree with /u/[email protected] this episode didn’t really need all the replica tech stuff, I get the feeling the writers were trying to set up some sort of body switch romance gone wrong & this is what they ended up with.

  • Same here, I always liked Star Trek but kind of figured it was mainly for nostalgia nowadays until Discovery came along & all this new Trek related stuff started appearing.

With Discovery the time jump stuff was a bit of a stretch but I got used to it so it wasn’t a big deal. Plus the individual episodes were done well IMO. My only gripe with the show is that it felt like they took the storyline maybe too seriously at times.

I wouldn’t mind that it kept going a few more seasons but I’m happy that they’re getting one last season & can use that to wrap things up hopefully.
