I forget the term but it’s something like “staged rollout”. Not everybody will see the changes at the same time. Solidarity is harder when people think they’re above getting affected
That’s good to hear, somehow I never did!
What browser or app are you using? From where I am, it’s dark by default, and I think that’s based on system settings.
If you’re still struggling, there’s a web app that looks like a giant iPhone app called Voyager. It works on desktops, but it’s not ideal… but it does have an even darker dark mode that you can manually apply.
Inside Job and One Piece are also gems, FWIW.
I’ll subscribe to legally watch a show, but they don’t deserve more than a month per year from me…
You got an antenna? That’s practically $70/month you’re stealing from services like Google TV
Just a little update: I assumed, incorrectly, that this server would allow you to create a community, because I assumed every server would allow you to create a community.
It looks like I was correct about this server, but being able to create communities isn’t necessarily a given. Here’s a list of some other servers, some of them restrict community creation.
Your own… What? As long as you stay on the website you’re logged into, it’s pretty easy to make posts and comments anywhere they aren’t locked. I just made one over here.
Pretty easily, on the website you just opened the top hamburger menu and choose the “Create community” link
It would be difficult. Mostly because then, your password would have to be stored, in some way, across multiple servers instead of just one. With federation, your account is managed on one server, and a hashed version of your password is also stored alongside it.
On Mastodon, it’s pretty easy to pull up the same post across different servers (at least, if you count it as “easy” to copy the URL to the clipboard, go to your server, and then paste it in the search bar), but on Lemmy it’s a lot harder. Hopefully it will improve over time.
As long as it isn’t in violation of the rules of the server, there’s nothing stopping you from making the community. And, judging from the Reddit community you mentioned, I don’t think anything would violate the rules here
If there’s a dark pattern discouraging shorts and comments, that sounds like a good dark pattern to me.
This is an interesting dilemma. There is only one moderator of that community, and it isn’t here.
If the administrator of this website has the ability to add or remove moderators from communities that were not built on this website, what’s to stop an arms race occurring, where multiple administrators across multiple lemmy instances start modifying the moderator list?
I’m going to assume that the only person who had the ability to add other moderators is now no longer capable of doing so, as their instance is shut down, but that’s a guess.
