So I attempted to make a reference playlist on Spotify because I was worried about reposting.
I apologize if I missed a song. If it’s on Spotify, put the link in a comment and I’ll update it. I’ll be updating it on a regular basis.
This list does not include the posts of whole albums. It’s only posts of individual songs. I’m tempted to make the albums a separate playlist.
Cheers!
It would be cool if there was a music player similar to https://reddit.musicplayer.io/ for lemmy.
How long did this take? Anyway awesome work man!
Thank you! I thought it might be handy, so I wanted to share.
Took approximately 12 hours, spread out over a few nights. Took a break every 50 songs or so. Looking forward to daily maintenance rather than trying to find my previous stopping point somewhere in the last 2 years of posts.
This looks like a lot of work - but I love the idea of this.
Seems a great way to explore music I’ve never heard before - and revisit some classics.
Thank you.
I didn’t fully appreciate the amount of work it would take until about 150 songs in, sometime after I realized Jerboa wasn’t showing much beyond 6 months ago. Lots of flipping between Firefox and Spotify.
I’m glad you like it! It’s a trip to listen to. In making it, I found a few tracks I had planned to post and only a handful of reposts.
What saddens me is all the tracks that aren’t on Spotify. Lots of live covers didn’t make it. So it goes, I suppose.
Did you do this by hand ??? My dude.
I knew inevitably a coder was gonna come along and tell me how to do this like a sane person. Hahaha, yes by hand. I don’t know how else to do it. Please, for the love of all things, lay it out for me plainly, cause it did occur to me, but I had no idea where to even begin.
Happy to help out :) Web scraping is hard, good thing Lemmy gives an API. Hit me up on matrix if you’re there @penguincoder:hive.beehaw.org or just PM.
Your work and effort is very much appreciated. I had noticed the live version thing (I’d posted Burn by The Cure as a rare live performance) but having the studio recording is enough - those who want to see how a track might have sounded live will be able to find it (e.g. for some of the Alestorm tracks that have been shared recently, there is a very good live mix available under their label on YouTube).
Not being able to access all music via just one streaming provider seems to be a feature of the services these days. Sad and frustrating, but it doesn’t detract from the value and quality of this playlist.
Thanks again.
Everything I’ve ever heard of on this is something in my liked list, and everything else is something I’ve never heard of, so maybe some of these will also end up in my liked list 😃
For every song in it that I’ve heard and don’t like, there’s one I hadn’t heard before that I now really like. It was quite the experience putting it together. There were some songs I couldn’t wait to interrupt with the next track, and others I would add to the queue so I could hear them again.
10,000 Days may be my favorite cover artwork.
Was that the one where the physical copy came with two lenses (for glasses) that were built into the packaging? Or was that a different Tool masterpiece?
No that was the one. I just got a copy last year.
Edit: As cool as the packaging is, it won’t fit in a standard CD storage slot. Which is unfortunate. Haha.
I was very pleased to find that was in the first few.
Alright, this is pretty remarkable. Doing this manually must have been a pain in the arse.
Still I thank you for doing this. My band The Three Leonards is on here. Thanks very much for including us.Thanks for this, stellar work! 😍👌
And a song I posted is on there! 🥳
