It wasn’t a crazy guess, at least for the Pro, considering the first announcement of Thunderbolt was at an Apple event and it was a joint development between Intel and Apple, if I remember correctly.
It is a purely logical conclusion if Apple actually wanted to make this feature good like the rest of its competitors who have been giving usb 3.0 on their phones for more than a decade already. But Apple needs to milk us for more iCloud revenue, so this probably never will happen.
