X, the social media platform owned by Trump adviser Elon Musk, is challenging the constitutionality of a Minnesota ban on using deepfakes to influence elections and harm candidates.
the only part i agree with is the part about comedy. I’m not sure what technically counts as a “deepfake” but memes with images of politicians with text depicted as though it is a quote can be a valuable comedic way to call out a politician for hypocrisy, etc. so i would like there to be language in the laws explicitly acknowledging that. would it help if these memes were required to somehow acknowledge it is not real? is there flaws in my thinking on this?
