Cory Doctorow is rightfully enraged:

This is all downside. If Google complies with the order, it will constitute a privacy breach on a scale never before seen. If they don’t comply with the order, it will starve competitors of the one tiny drop of hope that Judge Mehta squeezed out of his pen. It’s a catastrophe. An utter, total catastrophe. It has zero redeeming qualities. Hope you like enshittification, folks, because Judge Mehta just handed Google an eternal licence to enshittify the entire fucking internet.

Don’t let perfect be the enemy of better. Democrats in America suck, yes, like Labor in Australia sucks. I’m still absolutely making my vote count away from the conservatives.

Look, I liked their policies too, they got a lot of money put twoards green energy.

But a party that can’t do what is required to stay in power will get voted out due to voter apathy.

The thing they need to do to stay in power is to put more money in the hands of the people, who have less money every year.

We have reached a point where the only way to do that is to redistribute the wealth in some way, and no party wants to upset their rich doners, so we are stuck in this cycle of voting out the incumbent until that happens.

The Biden administration was able to pass some really good legislation that like most good legislation will take many years to fully see the payoff. They definitely forgot the optics part about directly helping consumers, which they could’ve easily done just by making the expanded child tax credit permanent for example

My problem is I don’t have kids so it wouldn’t actually help me at all.

And there are less people having kids proportionally every year.

A child tax credit doesn’t give safety to Americans so much as it bribes/tricks poor people to have children without thinking of what happens after.

I was giving an example of objectively good legislation with immediate impact that Democrats dropped the ball on. Sure that specific piece of legislation won’t help everyone but it did help a lot of people while the expanded child tax credit was active.

Can we not with the whataboutism. I’m not a campaign advisor, and I’m sure you’re not either. We’re just two randos on the internet having a moment of “wow the Dems really dropped the ball there” it is neither of our responsibility to write a detailed hypothetical legislative schedule for a past presidential administration. I do not understand why you feel the need to demand that I specifically feed you policy ideas for a past United fucking States presidential administration

The peanuts they throw us that are meant to trick poor people into having kids they later won’t be able to afford is a disgusting trick that a lot of governments are trying right now.

If you researched these policies, you would understand that.

Wanting a candidate to benefit me instead of half assed attempts to get people to breed is a legitimate criticism.
