Hello. You may know of the retro game NES Super Dodgeball, which helped convince a few friends of mine to start some irl after school dodgeball games in 2001 when I was 14. Long story short, 12 years later I was selected to represent my country in this sport, and now I want to use it to create a meet up partially inspired by the Fallout meetups I read about. Ours could still be something unique, bringing together different gaming communities, and I’ll be open to discuss any suggestions or modifications to the sample of the plans.

Half Life Battlefield Dodgeball Meet Up

You can choose 1 of 6 Factions:

Resistance

Xen

The Combine

Aperture Science

The Employers

Race X

We can have a competitive dodgeball series with one team per faction featuring a video series inspired by Extreme Dodgeball from Game Show Network, which could be used as a way to help advertise the Half Life Meet Up. Energy Balls are generated by Combine Dark Energy reactor systems and transmitted through the plasma conduits of Citadel power transfer systems, and may be the ball type used at the events /s

The competitive video series could either use a style more similar to the NES game, a style more similar to the popular comedy film, or a combination of the two styles to create a fun and spectator friendly match.

The image attached to this post shows a potential location for the meet up, set on 40 hectares / 98.85 acres in Italy.

We can use this location in Italy as an example, since the official location is TBD.

€1,950,000 / 6 Factions = €325,000 / 4 options = €81,250 / cost of each option below to show how many people are the goal.

4 Potential Half Life Meet Up Options:

HEADCRAB OPTION: €50 (1,625 people per faction goal)

Full access to the video series inspired by Extreme Dodgeball from Game Show Network, with one team for each faction, and the top players selected from tryouts to represent each faction.

HOUNDEYE OPTION: €100 (813 people per faction goal)

Attend the event, play recreational dodgeball, and try to break a world record of largest dodgeball match. Includes HEADCRAB OPTION.

BULLSQUID OPTION: €100 (813 people per faction goal)

Attend the event, tryout for the competitive dodgeball series, and try to break a world record of largest dodgeball match (with the recreational players). Includes HEADCRAB OPTION.

STRIDER OPTION: €1,000 (82 people per faction goal)

Get a vote in the new organization in the decision making process and get the chance to have your voice heard. Includes HEADCRAB OPTION and either HOUNDEYE or BULLSQUID OPTION.

We will have a limit to how many people can attend the first event depending on the location, so we’ll be sure to let everyone know that if they miss the limit, they can support the project and save their ticket for one of the following years.

If this is the most recent record info, “The largest game of dodgeball involved 6,084 participants and was achieved by the University of California, Irvine at a game organised by UC Irvine students and NLA Sports (both USA) in Irvine, California, USA, on 25 September 2012” then we can aim to find a place that will allow for over 6,000 people for world record attempts.

During the other months there, I could host dodgeball events for locals, and help prepare those interested in the annual competitive video series.

I will try to post another update soon if we have any interest.

Judging by the numbers above, the number of people who choose options to attend the event:

6 factions x 813 people for HOUNDEYE = 4,878 +

6 factions x 813 people for BULLSQUID = 4,878 = 9,756 +

6 factions x 82 for STRIDER = 492 people =

10,248 people / 2 year plan =

5,124 people for the first event goal

CONQUEST DODGEBALL (official name TBD) -

Partially from inspiration reading about the Fallout meet ups, this plan aims to bring together different communities related to gaming, Half Life Battlefield Dodgeball Meet Up.

I heard a dodgeball world record event had over 6,000 people, so the following plan could be possible, however, we don’t look at the record breaking part of the plans as a requirement to try to make it all happen.

Imagine a dodgeball match with a set of rules inspired by the conquest game mode in the battlefield series, played by 6 factions with a Half Life theme, so you can picture an advertising video from the first event where you’d see many players potentially dressed up as Half Life factions; Resistance, Xen, The Combine, Aperture Science, Race X, and The Employers, running across the Italian hills shown in the image above (official location TBD) throwing dodgeballs.

6 teams per match

6 control points

12 acres playing area

100 people per team

600 people per match

Rough draft rules:

Only 1 ball per team and 4 refs per ball, with 1 of the 4 refs holding a camera.

Hitting a player eliminates them from that round, but a catch only awards ball possession.

Players must stay a certain amount of feet away from other players if they have the ball.

Control points could be disc golf goals which would be in a neutral zone where players can’t throw / dodge / catch in for safety reasons. After a point is scored, a 3 minute timer is set until another point can be scored at that location.

If successful, we can create multiple locations for the series to try to allow more people the chance to participate in the events.

Someone suggested posting in some Reddit communities, but for some reason my account is getting an error, so I wasn’t sure if it was ok to ask if anyone wants to post it there, feel free to spread the word.

It only relates to the battlefield series in ways that one of the event game modes, Conquest Dodgeball (official name TBD) is inspired by the battlefield game mode, and how part of the theme of the meet up is with gamers uniting for a fun cause to help people stay active and healthy through sport.
