In just a year I’ll graduate and unfortunately I’m fearing this. I am definitely not looking for a “6-figure career”; I could pretty much live with something like $50k MXN per month (which in dollars is around 3k), but in Latin America (idk about other places) there’s an issue of companies often asking for someone who just graduated + already has more than 3 years of experience, like how do you want me to have experience if I just graduated? And the “market” is so oversaturated and companies are now too obsessed with AI that at this point the only two reliable options I have are either working in FOSS or in something that has nothing to do with my major.

I’d love te be able to work on FOSS, or something related. Because I don’t want my work to fill the pockets of some execs abroad. But I don’t know how feasable that is. Or where to look, even.

The alt-text on that image tho: “Mature bearded Caucasian man feeling upset after being resigned from successful company.” 😅

The leet-code and AI bubbles are bursting. Plus nearly every industry in the west has high-turnover now. You work there a few years max, get burnt out, then they make room for fresh grads who will work for less.
