Through Apple they’d be able to see who downloaded it, and likely when it was used. Apps give way too much access to phone data, whether the developer collects it or not. As you said, Apple has access and has capitulated to the Trump fascist regime already. The app leaves enough fingerprint for them to use. A Web app is just a safer and more available option.
