They seem friendly and forthcoming and just want to ask some questions. “Your name came up and we’re just trying to get an accurate picture of what happened.” Once he’s mentally committed to the exercise then they start grilling him about antifa and accusing him of lying about his lack of connections.
A hostile (voluntary) questioning is always going to start like it’s no big deal.
