Say what you want about crowd funding but it does seem to be one of the only ways we get interesting/fun design ideas these days. E-ink phones, mini phones, keyboard phones, slider phones, Linux phones, etc.
Yes, and now can we please have this with a hardware keyboard instead of the gamepad? Thanks for restoring peace and prosperity to the world of smartphones, shut up and take my money
It gives me strong Xperia Play vibes, I like it.
Neat idea!
But innovation in the smartphone space? What timeline is this?
Wow this takes me back!
Haven’t found more details yet. Issues I remember from the Xperia Play.
It’s chipset was a year out of date for its price range. Really it could be that today and be okay, games availability is way better today because of emulators and even the high end gacha games. That MMO Where Winds Meet just released on mobile. Got to try that
When the Xperia Play came out, big phones were considered like 4.5-4.7 inches. Xperia Play 4 inch display. Really cramped. A slider today would have way more space to size up/space out the controls. This i mainly want to see what is the thumb stick press down buttons. Display it’s probably 20x9/21x9. That ratio I’m happy around 6.5"-7" with miniscule bezels and no front facing camera
Ayaneo so probably real expensive but I hope it succeeds so we get slider phones again. Bring back thickness. Foldables/flips should be getting people cool with chunky devices again
This could give the RedMagic a run for its money
With the advent of foldable phones, it’s become easier and cheaper to make 2-part thin phones too.
The biggest issue for me with the Xperia Play was that the lack of thumbs ticks kept it stuck as an emulator for retro consoles (it could play ps1 and N64 games, but inputs held it back). This will fall into the same spot, where you can only really play games that don’t require a thumbs tick. So if it’s your daily driver, you end up with a device that’s making sacrifices as a phone and gaming device.
I still liked my Xperia Play, but I don’t think I would have recommended it to people.
That looks really uncomfortable to use, like the Nintendo DS. I ended up playing everything with the stylus.
This is so sick
Now turn the gamepad into a keyboard
