Retake the photo, but now make the shot at 2 instead of 3
I do that very often. I’ve found that people’s expressions are a lot less “stiff” that way.
Edit: it’s entirely possible I started doing it after I read this comic for the first time.
I can’t help but think they left it far too late - they need to get the film developed and send the cards… all before the end of the week to maybe get to their destination in time.
