Hello! I’m looking for a reusable water bottle with certain characteristics, and am hoping for some recommendations:
- Made of stainless steel, or another long-lasting, non-degrading material that doesn’t change colour or absorb the flavour of the drinks inside
- You would trust it not to leak in your bag
- Supports both hot and cold drinks
- Has a straw
- Individually replaceable difficult-to-clean parts (e.g. straw, mouthpiece)
- Bonus points if these parts are sold separately
- Extra bonus points if there are interoperable multiple vendors for these parts! (not sure if that’s realistic, but I’ll include this anyway :))
- Easy to clean, either by hand or in the dishwasher
- Sold in the UK
- And of course, that lasts a long time!
I’d ideally like one with all of these characteristics, but feel free to comment bottles that don’t match perfectly, in case that’s useful to others.
Edit: thank you so much everyone for the suggestions! I ended up buying a Klean Kanteen Classic Water Bottle. It arrived yesterday and so far so good! Will edit again if anything goes wrong with it in the next 10 years :D
I’ve been using a Klean Kanteen for a decade now, and I have nothing but positive things to say about them. The straw lids come apart very easily for cleaning, and each of the parts is separably replaceable. When my partner needed to replace the silicone mouthpiece but couldn’t find it on the website, we just emailed their support and they were more than happy to send us a replacement free of charge.
I can also vouch for Klean Kanteen. I’ve had mine for over a decade and it’s holding up well (other than some dents from falling off of bikes and out of trucks onto rocks)
Klean Kanteen or Hydroflask. You’d be looking at a vacuum insulated double wall tumbler flask. They have multiple volume sizes that share features and lids. (Eg, 12/16/20/32/42 oz). The latest generation of either brand do not leak.
Their replacement parts are pretty spendy on their .com web store (shipping is brutal) but people sell them retail or used on eBay.
The 2-1/4" wide-mouth lids from Nalgene, MSR, Klean Kanteen, Hydro flask and Camelbak usually share the same thread pitch but don’t always seal.correctly on the top gasket in all combinations. However there is some brand interoperability but its something you need to test for leaks.
I recommend a silicone sleeve bumper on the bottom to prevent dents.
Another good brand is Yeti but they use all proprietary lids and standards. I think the wall thickness on Yeti is possibly the highest making them super durable. The straw lid is called the Rambler. These are pretty expensive.
If you want it to last a long time, the best finish is always just the brushed polished bare stainless with no paint to scratch or chip. Otherwise start adding stickers over chips and scratches.
i’ve had really good luck with Klean Kanteen’s TKWide line. highly recommend. they’re also the only one i know who has any ethical certifications. the others as far as all i know are run ethically, the board of directors promises
The TKWide line are very nice! The lids for these go inside internal threads on the flask, they are a completely proprietary standard that cannot be swapped to other brands.
I’d recommend Thermoflask. I’ve had a pair of these for I dunno 7-10 years possibly, and from a quick search it looks like they may be sold in the UK. https://mythermoflask.com/products/thermoflask-insulated-stainless-steel-4-lid-combo-pack-40oz-1-1l-2-pack I believe they fit all your criteria and are “wide mouth” universal lids (have put some on from Klein Kanteen and others)
Got a pair like that from Costco. Still like new 2 years later and a lot of biking.
Camelbak has lots of options and lifetime warranty. If any part breaks you just fill out a form and they mail you a replacement.
It is not insulated, but can be used for hot drinks: https://shop.dopper.com/bottles/dopper-steel-800-ml
I own it and I am very happy with it.
Hydroflask makes some good options that meet that criteria
You want a zojirushi, maybe this one. I’ve had a very similar one for about 15 years. The bottom goes into the bottom of the dishwasher and the top goes into the top almost every night. Cold drinks stay cold all day, ice cubes don’t melt all the way, and hot drinks stay so hot you have to remember to be careful even in the evening. The model I have has very few parts (2 plastic top parts, 2 gaskets and the bottom. I’ve replaced the gasket once about 5 years ago.
FYI, Zojirushi vacuum-insulated bottles are not dishwasher safe.
Thank you for your inquiry. Zojirushi America’s vacuum insulated mug and bottles and their parts are not dishwasher safe. We advise handwashing the products and parts with warm water, mild liquid dish detergent, and a soft sponge. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact customer service by email at [email protected] .

I’ve noticed very few (if any) vacuum bottles are actually dishwasher safe.
Some Zojirishi bottles contain a nonstick film on the inside of their travel mugs. Some are pure stainless steel but cost more.
I wonder if that statement about them not being dishwasher safe is for the former. I bet the stainless steel options are dishwasher safe.

My CamelBak is. From looking at them on this page, KleanKanteen advertises it too.
Yep, they do say this, but i think a big part of the concern is the finish/pattern on the outside of the bottle, which I don’t care about (and honestly 15 years of use has damaged mine much more than any scuffing from washing)
Personally I won’t buy or keep a kitchen product if it can’t make it through the dishwasher. So while it might be my particular bottle’s survivor bias speaking, it hasn’t been a problem. Do keep the plastic bits on the top rack tho.
I think it’s more because it breaks the vacuum seal. Then water can get trapped in there and can burn you if it leaks out.
Are Moon Bottles good?
I’ve always been weirded out with straw+hot drink because every straw I’ve seen is plastic.
Moon Bottles looks like it’s based on UK and meets all your needs and bonus the straw is metal. Various online reviews look good
