I was speaking to a Nicaraguan co-worker a few days ago about the current situation in Nicaragua and the general geopolitical situation in Latin America as whole. She seems to be in her 50s so I ask about her memories regarding the Contras and Sandinistas. I shit you not, she actually spoke positively about the Contras; she said if the Contras were around today, Nicaragua wouldn’t be in the situation that it is today. She goes on to say that her dad was falsely accused of being a member of the Contras.
While I understand that the situation with her dad may have traumatized her, it is mind-boggling that she praised the U.S.-funded death squads.

There is always someone, normally someone whos family got more wealth while the others died. (The wave effect i guess.)
