would be happy with any linux os.
BIOS offers only UEFI
no Legacy option.
did tire debin and ubuntu all so i tired this https://askubuntu.com/questions/862946/unable-to-install-ubuntu-on-acer-aspire-es1-533
thanks
I bought a laptop very similar (same model group but from the year after) to this just before Christmas for my niece. Got it 2nd hand, as my brother was just looking a laptop that she could browse on and maybe do some homework.
I refurbished it and got it cleaned up and I tried lubuntu, xubuntu, linux mint xfce and one other (forget now). Same thing kept happening. Would simply freeze when trying to boot them. Had removed Secure Boot too.
After couple days of trying I ended up giving up and going with a Windows 10 LTSC IoT version from Massgrave for her.
Wish I had better news or something more productive for you. Sorry!
sorry about not showing error in detail got the error thanks to actionjbone with mx linux live log.

thanks for all your help
The post you linked to is 9 years old, back then UEFI support on Linux was very limited. Nowadays, pretty much any distro under the sun supports it. The question then, is whether the computer has Secure Boot enabled and can be disabled. Ubuntu and Fedora are signed with Microsoft keys if I recall correctly, so you wouldn’t need to disable it, unlike other distros.
You did say you tried installing Debian and Ubuntu, am I reading this right? Can you give us more details, like which ISO, how you created the Live USB, what error messages you got, etc.
lubuntu and ubuntu will not boot freezes after selecting try ubuntu option. debin frezzes near end of installing something to do with Secure Boot file thing and Secure Boot disabled. debin live works but same error installing.
I don’t know why it wouldn’t be possible.
Did you try installing it and see what happens? A BIOS with only UEFI shouldn’t be a problem.
I tired installing and disabled Secure Boot but the install stops and can’t find Secure Boot file thing. It is like Secure Boot is still enabled. Hope I making sense.
I once had a problem because the sata mode was set by default to some weird mode that only windows would work on, so I had to change it to ahci. Might be worth checking for it in the bios/uefi menu.

2022: https://medium.com/@thenujansandramohan/install-any-linux-distro-on-acer-aspire-es1-533-be8e2d6015efConsidering many years have passed I don’t think it’s necessary to use a cutting edge distro anymore, but the reddit thread says something about having to update the BIOS to the latest version.
sorry i did tire to update the BIOS but need windows to do it and freedos does not work with UEFI.
Try MX Linux. It runs on a toaster, and I’ve never found a machine it wouldn’t install on.
thanks mx linux is very nice OS.
but getting the same error and live log install is very nice.

What are you using to create the bootable installer? Rufus may have options to help with this.
Also, MX includes a bunch of system rescue tools. If grub-install doesn’t work by myself, maybe chroot would help?
The MX community forums might be a good place to ask, too. Lots of power users there.
I was going to say I have used acers and its fine but I can turn off uefi on them sooooo.
