Since Atlantis started, I have been watching both series by following the watch guide on the gateworld website.
While seasons 9 and 10 of SG-1 were OK, they were not nearly as interesting as Atlanis was, so I found myself looking forward to finishing SG-1.
Now, that it is over, I am a bit relieved and in future rewatches, I will likely skip seasons 9 and 10.
Atlantis has been great the whole way though. I really like the cast, but I just saw that Weir was replaced and I am surprised about that decision as I thought she played that role really well.
I am still early in season 4 of Atlantis, but I will likely get through it quickly as I put the show on any chance I get.
I did watch the ark of truth movie and did not like that at all. I look forward to the next movie, which I believe I am supposed to watch at the end of season 4 of Atlantis.
I find that if I regard seasons 9 and 10 as seasons 1 and 2 of a different show, they’re more fun. Should have been called “SG-2”
A lesser leader and his very tired veterans leave the big stuff to the fresh leading team of SG-1.
They bring back a lot of the low stakes campy stillness of the first two seasons of SG-1.
I recently finished Atlantis, and I feel that even it provides closure, ending was abrupt.
Now to SG-U.
SGU had some interesting tech, but they focused mostly in the people and, in my opinion, lost a lot of what made Stargate special. Feels more like a soap opera than a sci-fi show.
It felt like the teen drama they mocked in episode 200.
IMO SG-1 really proves the truth this comic. Although I don’t think the Ori Arc was quite as dire as the comics “beyond season 7”.
On rewatches I nope out when the Ori arc starts as I do find it that dire.
What irked me the most was Mitchell being introduced. I mean, i get that RDA was getting tired, but they should have just given Carter the unit command and brought in a wildcard for the fourth slot, but your comic is correct i suppose in that they did not want to change the formula.
Atlantis is awesome, the only letdown for me was the ending. I believe the intention was to do one or two movies just like they did with SG-1 to wrap everything up. But it fell through and so we were left hanging.
