If these kingdoms had built a pipeline skirting the strait, I guess it would still have been susceptible to missile & drone attack, and a 500-mile long, deep-underground pipeline was out of the question.
I know Saudi Arabia does have and east west pipeline that they can use to ship oil out and bypass the strait I just assume it doesnt have the capacity to match all the ships that usually take all the oil.

A canal along that approximate path would be “only” 34km. Questionable whether that, or a 500km buried pipeline, would be easier.
