Making competent users wait a day to install apps they want to install is ridiculous
It’s a one-time wait when you first enable the feature, not a wait each time you want to install something, but yes.
That is even more stupid.
Better than I expected.
But I also worry this is the first twist of the dial to boil the frog.
Yeah, honestly for me I’m going to run graphene until postmarketOS matures or someone gets VOLTE working for ports for sailfish so all I want is devs to keep deving until I can move
Of course this is all for security reasons so we don’t download these evil and malicious apps from well known appstores like F-Droid. Thank you Google for parenting me so well and kindly, I would have never known how to stay protected.
Cool, going to iPhone out of spite.
Black rectangle or white rectangle. What’s the big difference now?
iPhone where most apps aren’t even allowed to run in the background? Ok lmao.
Idiotic. On iPhone you can’t install apps from files at all.
I think the correct answer is to go Motorola+GrapheneOS
Has their graphene compatible device been released yet?
Na, it’s a no-go if you need a phone right now. We’re a few years out.
But, Motorola did announce their partnership with GrapheneOS on the official Motorola blog: https://motorolanews.com/motorola-three-new-b2b-solutions-at-mwc-2026/
Together, Motorola and the GrapheneOS Foundation will work to strengthen smartphone security and collaborate on future devices engineered with GrapheneOS compatibility. … In the coming months, Motorola and the GrapheneOS Foundation will continue to collaborate on joint research, software enhancements, and new security capabilities, with more details and solutions to roll out as the partnership evolves.
I actually did need a phone replacement a month ago and I went with Fairphone for now. Trying to spread out the power, instead of concentrating it.
No. It hasn’t even been announced. There has just been mass speculation stemming from some AI-generated blog post.
To be fair, old people and less tech-savvy people would download apps from scammers giving them access to everything.
I think this is a reasonable middle ground.

There’s already a check where you have to allow an app to be installed from any source outside of the play store.
I even question sketchy looking apps from the Google shop, so forcing me to wait a day to load something is just going to be obnoxious as hell for no real gain.
They could instead allow people to enable a ‘high security mode’ to block things if the less savvy are a concern without forcing it on everyone else.
Quit drinking the kool aid.
