As far as megacorporations are concerned, they really just want all of your money
Maybe awhile back, but at this point they are kind of melding with the fascists. Social media, mainstream news, financial architecture, and communication networks controlled by corporations are definitely being backed by increasingly fascist organizations which definitely value total control over everything else.
I mean that’s true, yes. But even then they’re only in bed with fascists because right now that’s profitable. A while ago they were funding politicians who were just neoliberals, not fascists. The kind that just leave them alone and let them profit off everyone in peace. I was specifically referring to the age checks though, not their data collection practices overall. An ID check is annoying to the user and thus most corporations would rather skip that unless they actually need it so they know who to blame if you rack up debt or something. Just knowing everything about you without you ever getting prompted to do anything is way better for them.
