Horror fans don’t give that much of a shit about continuity. I mean, look at Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th .etc .etc

They’re there for the shock value, the tropes, looking at all the ways people die or get disgusted. If you don’t have a comprehensible story that revolves around that, then they won’t care.
