There’s no way to automatically open new folders in a tab. You can right click but in windows 11 it’s hidden in the more options menu by default.
You can overcome some of this with regedit but I only use windows for work and naturally I’m locked out of that.
I have never been bothered by right clicking the folder then selecting new tab or new window if I don’t want to just enter the folder, but at the top of the window on the bar there are 3 dots. Click that icon and hit options it pops a settings window up and u can select if u want 2x or single click to perform action and if u want to just enter the folder or by default have it open in a new tab or window. If w11 did one thing well I thought it was the new file explorer lol. I haven’t done any regedits for these options but sucks to be locked out of that for many reasons!!
Can’t they just make tabbed file explorer work properly instead?
What’s wrong with tabbed file explorer? I haven’t run into any issues yet

I know how to use windows and the setting you mention above is reset on startup (edit, probably because it’s a work computer). It also doesn’t solve the actual problem. Here’s a better description: https://superuser.com/questions/1766815/is-there-a-way-to-make-a-folder-open-in-a-new-tab-instead-a-new-window-in-window
And the solution is… It is not natively possible to make tabbed explorer work as it should.
There should at least be a shortcut for it.
