Its just a cultural thing. In the US, children play just about every sport, but once kids get to high school, soccer falls off the map and everyone migrates over to American football and basketball. I think they just mean that generally speaking only children play soccer in the US. It’s of course not true, there are high school teams and lots of tech leagues, but it is true that hardly anyone who is not a child plays in the US.

For the record I think it’s fun to play. I dont particularly like watching it but then again I find watching most sports boring.
