Living close to Germany, it seems to me the Germans really like to show their titles and no one seems to think it’s pedantic. That said, over here in the Netherlands the Dutch titles weren’t used by many, but I see quite a lot of MBA’s, MSC’s and even BSC’s these days.
We usually distinguish between qualification and title. Using your qualification to underline an argument is fine. Using your title to try and make yourself worth more than someone else is not. So “I’m a plumber by trade, I know how that plumbing has to be done properly” is OK. “My PhD makes me more important and helps me cope with my self worth problems” is not.
