    Historically…like, going way back…military service has always been one of the only paths of upward social mobility for the lower classes.

    Post-9/11 GI Bill is no different, since education is often priced out of reach of the lower classes, and education is presented as a path of upward mobility, too.

    I can’t fault the racism, honestly. Not because I want to dismiss it, but because for 18-25 year old kids who haven’t developed a full frontal lobe and have almost no experience or knowledge of the world outside their racist community (racism is more pronounced in poverty-stricken areas), you can’t really expect much else.
