Am I the only person who gets mildly miffed at ‘slayed’ when it was previously ‘slew’? I guess it’s the slow march toward removing rarely-used irregulars which isn’t a bad thing.
Is it odd that I associate both separately, ‘slayed’ to either a queer icon being a boss (I still haven’t warmed up to the alternative of “serving cunt”) or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I associate ‘slew’ with death by sword and, slightly related, Lily Allen’s Fuck You

Arguably, there is no wrong, there’s just usage. You used it and I understood it, so that’s fine. I grew up with fantasy novels and the kjv bible, so I probably had a lot of the older usage in my mind.
