I am considering creating my own lemmy instance as my current instance (lemmy.world) is often down, and I enjoy this kind of a project. That being said I haven’t been able to find any resources on hw needed for this? If I have a raspberry pi 4b 8g with 128gb is that enough for just me using it? Do I need to pay for a cloud server to host it? How can federation work if I only have <10 users tops? Anything else I might need to know?

If you just want arm64 images: https://github.com/ubergeek77/lemmy-docker-multiarch
For hosting at home, just make sure your network is fast enough and you don’t have frequent outages, otherwise I’d say a pi4 is enough, I have the cheapest hetzner arm cloud server, and I think it’s weaker. 128GB is more than enough storage.
No idea how having 10 times the users would change things, though.
When you say make sure your network is fast enough, how fast do you mean? I have 200mb, is that fast enough? (It’s the fastest option for my house)
I don’t know what’s required, would also depends on your upload as all images you post are primarily served from your instance.
