Really looking forward to this - I don’t understand the hate for the MCU’s Captain Marvel in the slightest. (Other than sexism, that is.)

The first one was great, and this one looks like its following in the original’s footsteps. Ms. Marvel’s inclusion has me super excited, the character’s wide eyed wonder at everything happening around her is infectious. Can’t wait.

Captain Marvel may be an unsalvageable character at this point. Her origin movie was for badly handled by the writers.

The problem with the character is that she never earned her powers. There was never any struggle. Never any challenges she had to overcome by growing as a person. In her first movie she was just magically good at everything all the time, always.

I suppose they could give her the Thor treatment… Totally take away all her powers until she proved herself worthy… Have her fail and grow.

Captain Marvel in the comics explicitly never earns her powers either.

But then again, neither does Superman over in DC. Captain Marvel is basically a Superman analog (as are Sentry and Hyperion, really, but they’re not in the MCU yet)

Regarding superman… Superman I and II were both part of the same story, and we DO see Superman lost his powers and earn them back.

But even just in Superman I, we see him struggle. When kryptonite takes his powers, it is his past good deeds and his heartfelt plea that gets lex luthors henchwoman to release him. And we see Superman fail and lose Lois lane.

Earlier in the movie we see young Clark scolded and humbled by his father for showing off his powers.

He is a character who fails in small ways and grows. That’s why we empathize with him.

Gonna be real man I don’t think either Superman 1 or 2 were better than the first Captain Marvel movie, and it isn’t close.

Captain Marvel’s entire arc is based on defining who she is and wants to be, not her powers themselves. She’s an amnesiac that was basically kidnapped and turned into a weapon.

The IMDB and metacritic scores show Superman is much more highly regarded by the public and critics alike.

Avatar series are the highest and third highest grossing movies of all time, and I don’t think either Avatar movie is that good, either. They’re fine, but I don’t understand how they’re so popular.

Citizen Kane and 2001 are both considered among the greatest films of all time and I don’t like those either. 2001 is only marginally interesting, and Kane just sucks imo.

Turns out people like different things. I enjoy Marvel movies for what they are and this one has me hyped.

That’s fine. You can argue that your opinion is right and that is the world that’s wrong.

It’s just not a very compelling argument.

I grew up reading fucking comic books dude you don’t need to explain to me that I’m a nerd.

There is no “right” kind of media to enjoy.
