I lurk the Reddit’s onion site using tor and turn JavaScript off. I don’t even have an account there anymore so I can’t comment on anything. This way they don’t get any advertising dollars from me. But it’s the best way for me to keep up with what’s new and upcoming in some special fields that I’m in.

too late, I already use Freetube, I don’t even use a Google account anymore to subscribe to channels. It’s FOSS and entirely out of the browser as a seperate client so they can’t even store cookies. it is bad if they don’t realize how simple it is to pump their own gas. That’s about the equivalent of a possibly regular task like being able to unencrypt your own files. I’d say it’s important enough that you should not be relying on anyone with the potential security of your own personal data.

Microsoft and apple are the reasons boomers have learned helplessness with tech. It helped them sell units in the 90’s to imply you didn’t have to ever consider anything under the hood because it all is supposed to just work like magic. you just hit the switch and let electricity do it’s thing.

laptop bios updates are usually .exe files if the stock build ships with wendoze on it. I don’t make the rules unfortunately. you have an old dell or lenovo that you converted to a linux machine, you have to deal with the devil occasionally.

just run windows to go off a pendrive and you don’t have to worry about it stinking up your default drive and taking up valuable space.

As much as I hate being bled to death by subscription services, It’s probably still cheaper to subscribe to windows for a whole decade than use an apple computer outright for half that time.

The majority of Linux users aren’t in it because it’s free (as in free beer) anyway, and most broke gamers will likely continue to just pirate windows regardless.

However now that data usage and privacy and security is becoming a hot topic in the age of AI, I think once Microsoft and apple both start getting really brazen with their telemetry and embedded spyware, it will finally be the year of the Linux desktop! ;)
