Ah yes, the high road, the best know cure for and deterrent of fascism… 🙄
further incite the right, convince them that they are fighting the holy fight, and accelerate violence against the citizenry?
Literally already happening.
How anyone can think that rolling over and playing dead while fascists stomp their way in to (more) power is a better way to “fight” them, than, I don’t know, actually fighting them, is honestly mind blowing.
Check your privilege, the fact that you aren’t impacted by their ongoing war, doesn’t mean no one else is.
But as I said, I doubt if it will increase the overall hits for Wikipedia or be a last straw for people hesitating to use the site
Why the fuck do you think accessibility is about increasing hits?
Ah, well, if you can’t imagine it, then all those people with visual impairments who haven’t been able to read the content previously simply must not exist! 🙄🤦♀️
But we didn’t and weren’t
Deliberately of course, precisely to maintain ignorance, and keep the Overton window firmly on the right…
That doesn’t magically make democrats “the left” (E: and therefore doesn’t explain why they wouldn’t be fans of CNN, being centrists, at best) lmao
Oh wow, finally!
Your mistake is thinking democrats are “the left” lol
I chose to believe he is being honest about why he cancelled the tour, and it wasn’t because “I agree with my buddy, and we’re going to stay out of the limelight for a short minute to stay safe”, but because “my buddy wants a fascist dead, and I can’t be seen to agree”.
I also find it fucking hilarious that people seriously think anyone is going to target this guy (or that he doesn’t already have/ can’t afford security), when there are significantly bigger targets out ther.
I can understand a minimum wage worker not risking their livelihood over expressing antifascist sentiment in the workplace, but that doesn’t apply to a well known multi-millionaire with a large global platform.
He is saying loud and clear - his millions and his fame, only one of which he is at risk of losing over expressing his opinion (E: and even then, he’d get plenty of notoriety to replace it if he actually found some self respect), are more important to him than taking a stand against fascism.
so we can find out how that happened.
If it’s still a mystery to you, you’ve not been paying attention - pig saw an excuse to kill a Black person.
At no point did I hold that individual responsible for the system (I literally hold landlords responsible at one point, but this story isn’t about landlords, is it??), but they ARE responsible for their own actions within said system, and for directly causing harm to this family (and I guarantee, many others) with the little power they yield (and before you even try - yes, landlords and those in power cause an altogether different level of harm, but until you’ve been faced with this kind of attitude and discrimination from the bootlicking gatekeepers who just love having a drop of power over the lives of others less fortunate than them, you don’t have a fucking clue the kind of deep and long lasting impact it has, not only mentally, but materially).
Their own circumstances, which MANY share yet magically aren’t cruel arseholes, are not a fucking excuse nor justification for that kind of bigoted bullshit. I have no sympathy for those who have no sympathy for others, and who take their frustration with our world out by punching down instead of up.
So you please keep in mind that excusing or brushing off this kind of attitude and behaviour tells people like me just how little value our lives and well being hold in your opinion.
E: honestly, your comment is the perfect demonstration of why class reductionism isn’t just counter productive, but actively harmful, and why intersectionality is absolutely imperative if you hope to ever better society for everyone (because even if you improve the material conditions of this civil servant, it won’t magically make them no longer ableist or misogynist, only, maybe, less classist).
This makes my blood boil.
It’d be bad enough if it was just any random person, but being disabled myself, I know far too well how difficult, to practically impossible, it can be to find a place that isn’t only suitable to live in, but where the landlords will even consider you in the first place instead of instantly putting your application in the reject pile because you or someone in your household is disabled (both of which result in a high rate of homelessness among disabled people).
There are so many different and equally distressing levels of heinous to this bullshit, from misogyny to ableism, to classism, to just plain old wilful ignorance and cruelty.
People like this civil servant should spend their time being eternally grateful to not be in such a position as this mother is, since they wouldn’t survive a fucking hour in her shoes.
FUCK
Like I said, I don’t criticise anyone for using the service, and the more affordable it is, the better, but trust that they are definitely not working at a loss, in the same way supermarkets, that would probably still charge less for the same items, do - by making you believe they’re selling to you at just about what it costs them to get by, when they are selling it to you for significantly more.
Except they’re selling you the kit at waaaay over cost in the first place, so they’re still making money off of you. I promise you they are aware of the “glitch”, and are not ignoring it out of the kindness of their hearts.
(not criticising you for using the service, if it works for you go for it and get those discounts, but don’t let them manipulate you in to thinking you’ve got one over on them, they 100% account for this kind of thing and are still making money)
This was a refreshingly positive exchange, thank you, I appreciate it!
I’m really glad you’ve found the information helpful, this kind of consideration and inclusion can only make a community stronger.
Just one more point I think I should have included: not all disabilities are visible - from autism to PoTS to chronic pain to mental illness, some people might look perfectly abled but actually face many barriers and challenges, so remember to include them too (and again, not that you would, but in general - don’t doubt or question someone’s disability, like questioning why someone who doesn’t “look disabled” parks in a disabled bay or uses the disabled toilets or can’t stand in a queue but needs to sit even if they look young and fit. Not being visible doesn’t mean whatever it is isn’t having a massive impact).
Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough, and you clearly get it, so I’ll end on a - solidarity, comrade!
I really miss kbin… 😔(no hard feelings, I genuinely wish Ernest the best and hope he makes a comeback)
I actually tried migrating my account from there before the major issues, as a backup, but realised it didn’t back up my blocked lists, which are much harder for me to recreate than my subscribed list and settings are, so decided to wait and see if anyone improved the migration tools.
Then it became too late, and I had to start from scratch, and am now regretting the instance I chose, and have not yet had the brain space to check out the other kbin/mbin instances and find a new one I like. Until then I’m reluctant to participate.
If anything, the last couple of months, with kbin dying and realising how uncomfortable I am on an instance run by people who have expectations from their users I fundamentally disagree with, have made me want to start my own private kbin/mbin instance for myself so that I don’t end up in either situation again, but I don’t know that it’s something I can take on, having no programming knowledge or any experience with anything like that.
So yes, I agree with you, for more than the reasons you’ve provided, and I hope we, as a general community use these developments to learn and improve.
