It is hilarious that you think that voting for one of two fascists is stopping fascism. It’s sad that you believe Americans are actually participants in their government and not victims of it.

Fascists do not care about democracy or voting. You cannot stop a fascist with an election. Just look to history for examples, Hitler never won an election. Neither did Mussolini. They both seized power in a crisis. Why is this important? Because even if the American election was real and not rigged (of which it is) the fascists will push the country to a crisis and take power anyway.

There is only one way out of this for the Americans and they are refusing to take it seriously or act. It isn’t voting. I hope they can choose non violence and this looks like calling for a constitutional convention to start, the actual structure of their government is fundamentally broken and cannot be fixed with its own processes by design. The Americans will not choose this though, they are a damaged and deeply violent society who prefer death over life and will make the wrong choice and the entire world will suffer.

Seeding is different than downloading though and the seed box service is in another jurisdiction doing that where it is legal. I only connect to a proxy up with ssh and download data to my actual home, never upload. As far as my jurisdiction is concerned I haven’t seeded anything, just downloaded encrypted data from a datacenter ip.

What would work is moving to a different instance with a different identity or better yet launching your own instance.

The problem with mods and admins is that the ownership isn’t widely distributed across the users enabling that dynamic in the first place. This is non commercial human scale social media which means that it is run by people. If you don’t like it or them you must run your own.

We don’t need people calling anyone out, we need people to invest in new instances and actually post content. Lemmy is censorship proof so nothing is being accomplished with this nonsense that is worth while. Even the idea that people are power tripping, just block them. It is their server they’re paying for, don’t use it or federate them. All this does is create drama and harass instance admins or in the case of lemmy.ca harasses regular users and makes this overall less enjoyable. It’s a toxic and immature behavior that is best left on Reddit.

I very strongly disagree and defederate their server and their spam users for that reason. That only exists to harass and troll people and should not be tolerated. After some shitbag posted about me there I had waves of trolls go to my discord servers. The posts there are all extremely petty and it should be deleted.

Yeah, leaving something like that on their server demonstrates a lack of vision and maturity. If they are going to host a major instance they should be more careful about allowing toxic communities to use their facilities.

I don’t live in a place that would raid an international hosting provider. In my county no one is ever going to come after me for using a seed box to download tv and movies. I simply do not need to worried about being ratted out.

In my country I don’t get good upstream internet so I can still have good ratios on torrent sites and the private trackers I use. The prices on the dedicated seed box services can’t be beat for bandwidth and for someone with kids it’s already all set up.

Admins can, I do on vegantheoryclub.org but lemmy.world and lemmy.ca will not. The admins don’t agree with your take and aren’t going to change their minds so the only recourse you actually have is to invest in and build your own server and federate with who you align with.

Go to a host like feralhost and rent a seed box. This gives you a webhosted transmission to paste magnet links in from any torrent site. Then you connect with filezilla over sftp, no vpn or nonsense needed and its all super fast because the torrenting is done from a data center and you download only from there over encrypted ssh at max speed when its finished.

The fediverse isn’t one thing and lemmy in particular is censorship proof, meaning there isn’t much you can do besides tailoring your own experience and filtering the feed to suit you. My instance doesn’t federate with lemmy.world or lemmy.ca because they are not well run instances without any oversight to their users and it’s mostly spam. My instance also fully disables downvotes because they are all spam as well.

Why is that bad advice to vote for someone you agree with? It isn’t like American elections are in any way real or the government of the United States gives a fuck about the people who live there.
