Well, if you’re looking for absolute perfection in a ST theme, good luck. It’s not like Mike Post or John Williams were writing these suckers.
That said, I thought Alexander Courage did a hell of a job on the original.

I find it ever-so-slightly pompous with all the horns, but otherwise, a cool remix of the original theme.
Roddenberry from what I’ve read in multiple places sounded like a huge asshole to me, and nowhere near the ‘Great Bird of the Galaxy’ he liked to self-label himself as. Now yes, a very talented asshole, whose vision started the franchise, and certainly who put in much work on TOS (along with many other talents), but nevertheless a real PITA on a personal level who wound up burning most of his bridges.
Point is-- if Meyer lost his cool with him as a young guy, I wouldn’t be very surprised.
And… what symmetry would THAT be, dude?
It’s been a long, loooong time since I’ve uttered these words, but: THAT ABSOLUTELY KICKS ASS. (or Romulan pastrami, whatever)
Now, there’s always going to be a quibble, so here’s mine: Leonard Nimoy was about 6’ in actual height, and I believe Jon Frakes is about 6’3" - 6’4," right around Michael Dorn’s height, for example.
Still-- I get it. If the artist is trying to suggest the outsized influence of Spock, I understand. I mean, Shatner was utterly magnificent in his role, but Nimoy was also right there with him, a brilliant, iconic presence that helped turn TOS in to what might have otherwise been “Lost in Space.”
I love this comic, because “never quit / never surrender” is one of the godamn stoopidest phrases in our culture.
How about: “Take a break, re-tool, gather yourself, ask yourself if this is what you really want, and if so, can our methodology and stress-relief be improved? Well then, well then!”
Thanks, Ella!
Yes I agree, some privacy payment info would probably help folks like me in future. I don’t have much experience (nor confidence) in this area and could frankly use a slight bit of hand-holding, haha.
Thank you.
I’m indeed living in the USA at this time.
In which case, do you have any thoughts about how I might make a donation to this instance? TBH I’m a bit scared about giving out my credit / debit card info, so I tend to err on the side of extreme caution.
Just set up an acct with one of those four agencies, I imagine?

you’re claiming that they’re misusing the anti-CSAM feature to remove comments from the modlog
Right, that was one aspect of that, but at the end of the day?
What ML has clearly done is to fuck with the integrity of the Lemmy-sphere across multiple, fundamental levels, and that’s what I and many others find completely unacceptable, and have of course stated as much.
Seriously, how is it even possible that you’re browsing the FV and haven’t seen this shit…?
Yes, yes-- I get the fact that you’re a ‘self-declared weirdo!’ “Big proponent for killing all cis men! Token Trotskyite!”
You DO understand of course that civilisation is collapsing fast, much of it due to our bloody inactions, is it not…?
So this is coming up on the one-year anniversary, when I was beyond frustrated with Reddit, when I decided to ‘jump in to the FV,’ and was matched up with this particular random instance / site.
Dudes… I feel like I’m the luckiest person in the universe.
OP has not only taken his personal time to help me across multiple various issues, but even resurrected my community when I accidentally deleted it a couple months ago(!)
Our little Euro-art community, such as it is, would simply NOT be possible without OP.
I am BEYOND grateful, sir. <3
Absolutely.
I will make it a special point tomorrow to look up the many, many posts upon that matter made in the last couple days across the FV.
One also wonders what people like you were doing in the meantime, but never fear-- please DO add on with any more requests for such information in the coming days. I will be happy to do the lookups and get back to you. ^^
as far as im aware there is no evidence that anyone has misused this specific admin power
In that case, then congrats for living in your own little delirium, apart from the many, many reports people have made reporting those specific abuses.
Well then, good for you.
Meanwhile, there’s been a legion of solid users here pointing out across the FV that the ML has in fact been abusing its admin powers, or did you think that the whataboutism of CSA would somehow, magically erase that shizzle?
If so, then shame on you.
That’s fine on ‘paper,’ but can you seriously not understand how it’s being shamelessly abused on the Tankie / ML front?
It’s more than just that IMO. It’s breaking the stated aim of open federation by tampering with comments, posts and mod records, which in turn get propagated or de-propagated to connected instances, right?
Yes, you may say that ML is of course free to screw with their own instance, but 1) one instance (particular a significant one like ML) affects other instances, and 2) they’re breaking the spirit of their own software by shamelessly abusing admin powers, in turn helping to normalize that behavior to the Lemmy side of the FV.
What’s the point of leaving oppressive, commercial social media only to run in to the same kinds of abuse of power on a supposedly transparent, user-run, P2P social network?
the devs have absolutely no say over how the software being used
It seems like they have some strong say when it comes to their own instance. According to some recent posts, ML admins (and maybe even mods?) have the ability to erase any record of mod actions, for example disappearing critique of the CCP’s brutal actions in Tiananmen Square that were posted on ML. That left no record in the public mod logs, and the users were never informed that their contributions had been (completely) deleted.
I’m only a 1yr Lemming myself, but I never saw such a critique aimed at any other instance, hence why I’m skeptical that the devs don’t have influence over how the software is used.
Good stuff; thanks for sharing.
The contrast between Curtis’ outgoing personality versus the character she played reminded me a bit of Jeremy Brett playing Sherlock Holmes. I would think one’s native personality would peek through the stoniness of the role from time to time, regardless.
Nice job portraying all that as Biden’s specific work.
In any case, if you want to see the US go hardcore on Israel support, then by all means Trump will do that.
Oh, rabbits!
