If it’s one set for everyone, I’m going with Shapeshifting, Healing, and the third kind of depends on how this stuff works.

Shapeshifting I’d take even if I was only allowed one power. I’d finally have a body that fits. Several of them, in fact. Some might even be human. We could swap between us physically, and turning into stuff for a while just sounds fun.

Healing because if I don’t pick it I’m eventually going to regret it. Shapeshifting might already let me fix any damage that isn’t incapacitating or instantly lethal, but that only applies to my own body. I’d want to be able to help others, too.

For the third power… Magic could mean a lot of things, including many on this list. Maybe it’s a “jack of all trades, master of none” kind of deal, which I’d be fine with. A bunch of spells that cover a wide range of situations but aren’t as strong as specializing in a single power.

Teleport is really appealing. Lots I can do with it if I can take people or things with me, or set up something long-range that doesn’t require line of sight. If it also allows me to create permanent portals then we’re really going to have fun.

Or I could take Invulnerability to remove that “incapacitating or instantly lethal” weakness and really lean into being some kind of unstoppable healer. Divine Powers? Depending on what that does, it could replace Healing while also giving a bunch of other benefits. Hell, if it lets me resurrect people too, and I also take Invulnerability, then I’m basically an emergency respawn point for the entire community.

Is this a trick question? You’re you. No amount of bodily alteration will change that. Shapeshifting will, however, allow you to have the most you-like body imaginable.

They’re not talking about natural monopolies. A natural monopoly is when there’s some barrier to entry that prevents competitors from entering the market, like a need for prohibitively expensive infrastructure.

What OP is talking about are situations like Walmart opening a store in a new location, operating it at or near a loss to drive the local competition out of business, and then jacking up prices once no competitors remain. The government isn’t forcing them to do that.

No mention of trans people, which is odd given that Florida is a Do Not Travel state for its government’s efforts to criminalize being transgender.

It’s because the furry fandom, when it was founded back in the late 70’s by a gay polycule of sci-fi fans, was one of the only communities in existence that accepted openly gay and trans people. (And the only non-fetish community.) For many queer people, the furry fandom is the first place they ever feel welcome.

All the “I like Republicans’ fiscal conservatism” people in this thread need to read this. “Fiscal conservatism” and “small government” are and always have been dogwhistles for racism and other forms of bigotry. “Government waste” does not refer to inefficiency in government spending, it’s code for programs that help the poor and minorities.

The core of Conservative ideology is a belief in the existence of natural hierarchy, where all people owe privilege to the wise and righteous beings above them and are obligated to punish those below for their inferiority. The Conservatives themselves, having designed this hierarchy, are oh-so-conveniently at the very top of it. Everything that Republicans do makes sense when viewed from this perspective.

There’s a novel titled Glasshouse, by Charles Stross, where members of a far future civilization sign up to live in a simulated mid-20th century town. At one point the protagonist disassembles a flashlight and discovers that it’s just a flashlight-shaped case containing a small wormhole whose other end is in close orbit around a star. No one knew how to make an LED or incandescent bulb, or understood enough about early electronic components to hook one up to a switch and a battery. It was easier to make a wormhole generator and stick it in a metal tube.

My oven uses some weird “eco-friendly” self-cleaning process that involves pouring water into it and steaming the dirt off, which doesn’t sound like it would be good for the pan. Got any alternatives? I found a Griswold at the thrift store a few years back and I’d like to be able to restore it without damaging it.

I mostly watch anime these days so I’m reading subtitles regardless. The dialogue sounds pretty clear, though; I may not know what the words mean but I can easily make out the syllables being spoken. American stuff, though… If it was made in the past 15 years then it’s probably going to be full of mumbling and too-loud background noise. I suppose it’s possible that my friends have cheap speakers, but I remember sometimes having the same issue at the theater, back when I still went out to see movies.

More recently, I’ve been watching old British and American shows that a friend has been streaming. Stuff from the 60’s and 90’s. Didn’t have any issues understanding what was said.

I get what you’re saying and I wish I didn’t need subtitles, but it’s kind of hard to understand what’s going on when 90% of the dialogue in modern shows is unintelligible mush.

I thought I was going deaf because I struggled to make out what people on screen were saying. Then a friend got a bunch of us together to watch a TV show that was filmed in the 90’s and I could clearly understand every single word being spoken. The problem is on the production end.

Non-furries love anthropomorphic animal characters. Our culture is full of them; all cultures are. Furries didn’t invent sports mascots, Looney Tunes, the Easter Bunny, Aesop’s fables, or the Egyptian pantheon. Obviously it’s not the appreciation for talking animals that people actually hate. So why is it that, out of all the weird subcultures that exist, the one that gets the most hate thrown at it is the one centered around a love of something universal to all human cultures?

It’s because the founders of the modern furry fandom were gay and poly, and the fandom has always had an overwhelmingly LGBT membership because it used to be the only non-fetish community that openly accepted gay and trans people. All anti-furry hate is either a negative reaction to the fandom’s queerness or a deliberate attempt to attack the LGBT community by proxy.

That sounds fun. I had a similar idea once, but it was mechs protecting a massive rolling city with its convoy of industrial vehicles. Many of the game mechanics would be enabled by specific vehicles that were vulnerable to attack.

I remember a friend telling me about that series because she wanted to share a funny video reply (Remember those?) by somebody who managed to find the same animal plushies that the girl carries around; it was a parody episode where the plushies talk about the current situation in the story and suggest that maybe the girl should drop all the teen drama stuff so they can all focus on running for their lives instead.
