Using Where Is My Mind if you know anything about Bob is just…<chef’s kiss>
West Texas is oil drilling and churches
What an ending!
CAMEOS: Cap, Iron Man, T’Chaka, Dr Strange, Psylocke, Alpha Flight, Peter and MJ, Daredevil, Cloak and Dagger, Silver Samurai, Omega Red, Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar, Mr Fantastic (Morph). I probably missed some but that’s what I could remember
CRITICISMS: Rogue seemed to make up with everyone a little too easily, but I guess seeing Magneto rip out Logan’s Adamantium will do that. Phoenix was a cheap get out of jail free card, especially considering it just kind of disappeared after it freed the X-Men
HIGHLIGHTS: All the Blue team members individually beating down Bastion. Rogue: “HIS NAME WAS GAMBIT! REMEMBER IT!” The sentinel Trojan horse with gold team. The goodbye between Nathan and Scott/Jean. “I should have been in those stories!” “You were.” Mother Askani! We are going to get to see Scott and Jean raise Nathan!
And the post credits scene! We are definitely getting Gambit as Death!
This is easily one of the best things Marvel has done. A total nostalgia trip loaded with fan service for all us 90s kids. It stayed true to the original while becoming more mature at the same time. All the praise to Beau DeMayo. Whatever he did to get fired must have been bad, because this was an excellent product and it will be a shame to lose him.
Now get them to agree on what those changes should be
Totally agree with the broader point, but it won’t be the arrival of Tiamut that draws him because the story will be in the 1960s. Tiamut will still be gestating. However, maybe that will be the thing that stays his hand if the heroes fail?
Right? It’s hilarious and just shows how much they love the characters they’re playing with
They did it. They went full Fatal Attractions. Amazing.
But also…
The retro suits!
MORPH SMASH!
“Make them mind your weather.” “And weather your mind, sister.”
This show is just perfection.
Belt loops would have been for Cub Scouts. Merit badges are for Boy Scouts. There’s definitely plenty you can do at home for both, but with merit badges you need a merit badge counselor, who may or may not be your leader
X-Men 97 continues to have no right to be this good and this relevant.
“Overload their bandwidth, too much to compute. Because when your skin’s not in the game, apathy’s the answer.” - Bastion
The Wolverine/Nightcrawler team up was great, especially when they showed Nightcrawler with THREE swords!
Nods to Iron Man and Dr Strange, and outright cameos from Dr Doom, Baron Zemo, and Spider-Man
The whole concept of “absolute points” makes me think we are gonna see Kenosha destroyed in the MCU at some point too
Loving this show!
Fantastic fucking episode.
Nightcrawler’s eulogy for Gambit was perfect and showed a real love for the character from the writers
The sudden twist from relief that Sunspot’s mom knew and accepted her son as a mutant to betrayal that she wants to keep it secret mirrored what a lot of LGBTQ youth go through with their own parents
Rogue going off in her grief and actually trying to kill Trask when he was no longer useful was jaw dropping
And some cameos from Captain America and Thunderbolt Ross, with a Hulk name drop to boot
I’m using Jerboa. What are you using?
I tried but apparently I’m doing something wrong. What am I missing?
EDIT I’m not sure how to spoiler tag apparently, so read at your own peril
Easter eggs I’ve noticed so far:
That’s a sling ring portal
The ::: spoiler
Ant-Man helmet
:::
is actually ||his whole corpse, as you can see his arms fanning out beside his skull, his skull under the helmet when it opens, and you can see that when DP and Deadpool jump into the Sling ring portal it is through the skull’s eye socket||
You can see ||Azazel and Lady Deathstrike|| in the group shot of the thugs around 1:52 and maaaaaaaybe ||X-23 in costume|| on the far right
The shop in the background during the slomo walk is ||Liefield’s Just Feet|| 🤣🤣🤣
Gambit charging Wolverine’s claws is something I never knew I needed, but my inner 10 year old was squealing with delight at that
And chills when Cyclops said, “To me, my X-Men…”
I remember in the early post-Avengers days there was the theory that Clark Gregg was going to return to the MCU as Vision, and Vision was going to be based on Coulson’s brainwaves. Obviously this was before Agents of Shield.
Overall I enjoyed it. I really liked the setting of the French Revolution and the way that the Church allied itself with darkness in the face of an existential threat. Very relevant I think to many religious institutions today.
I REALLY liked Olrox. An Aztec vampire that can transform into a serpent god? Yes please. And they made him a three dimensional character, neither totally good or bad.
I agree that more time could have been spent on Rictor and Marie’s upbringing, but that wasn’t critical. I assume Rictor just comes by his skills naturally by way of being a Belmont and doesn’t need formal training. Marie was obviously trained by her mom. I really liked her power of conjuring creatures from another dimension, especially that one particular moment on the last battle with her foot.
Anne was a cool character but I agree she took too much responsibility for Eduoard’s death. But she’s also young and he was one of her only friends, so I can also kind of understand. She has a lot of growing to do.
I thought the idea of reformed Night Creatures was intriguing. Elizabeth Bartlett was underdeveloped as a villain, and Drolta wasn’t much better. Grandpa Belmont coming out of left field was weird and didn’t add much to the story since he didn’t do much.
Whatever it’s flaws, they weren’t enough for me to not enjoy it.
Seymour! Gaza’s on fire!
That’s why I always go alone…
The whole time I was thinking “I bet there’s gonna be a mutant stinger at the end”
