I don’t follow this either, but devils advocate, a review would find no wrongdoing without evidence beyond someones word. But just because something isn’t provable, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. At my workplace there is a tenured professor that has been harassing people into quitting for 30 years, and they still don’t have “evidence” beyond someones word, not enough to get around tenure. If they were forced to give a statement they would likely say no wrongdoing.

Upper middle class, used to be poor. I’ve been fighting for things my whole life that would disadvantage our current comfort if they were put in place. I also just helped organize a union at work, because most of my coworkers make half what I make (I’m not in management, but with a tech salary). In contract negotiations. We are not all shitty, though many of my neighbors in a nice neighborhood are greedy trumpists, whining about the scary poors, so I could certainly understand some animosity towards people who enjoy comfort in this shitty economy. But I think many people that grow up poor and get money remember what it means to be poor.

I’m in Minnesota, twin cities, sounds like property is comparable. To pay less than $300k you’re probably getting something you couldn’t realistically fit a family of 5 or likely something that needs $100k of work to bring up to code anyway. You could get a dump for $150k and fix it up yourself, but most people are not going to do that. Not the most expensive city, but far from the cheapest.

If you’re talking world wide you could give everyone on earth that is currently in poverty about $1200. That’s enough to help a great deal in poor countries, but it would be very temporary. If you’re talking just the USA, you’d be giving everyone in poverty $30k. That would certainly keep people out of poverty for a while. But under capitalism where people have to work many would be back in poverty in a year. Cash infusion would only work if it was permanent like a UBI.

Even if you spent that money to build free housing all over the country, it wouldn’t be enough to end poverty, though that would probably be the best use of the money. Just flood the market with housing availability and living gets way cheaper.

Chicago style pizza was originally tavern style thin crust. This deep dish nonsense is a modern thing. And I prefer Neapolitan over Sicilian because thinner crust is usually better.

As much as I love Jon Stewart, NYC has the worst pizza in the country. Don’t get why people love a limp pizza with the wrong ratio of bread/sauce/cheese. I’ve had better school lunch pizza than your average New York slice. Chicago style thin crust or Midwestern thin crust, or neapolitan are all worlds better pizza.

I actually think you hit the nail on the head with persecution complex. He likely grew up experiencing antisemitism, I know I did and I’m younger than him. But he became incredibly privileged. Since being persecuted is core to his younger identity, he doubles down on the idea that he is persecuted. I see this frequently with people that are newly rich, they can’t accept their new privilege as a shift in their identity, so they double down on an old identity.

It’s the same issue with Dave Chappelle, who used to be more conscious of -isms, but is dishonest about any other bigotry but anti-black bigotry since he became ultra wealthy. He needs to focus on anti-blackness over all else because if he doesn’t he just becomes another privileged dude in a broken system (in his mind). It’s about protecting your self image of a victim after becoming one of the privileged.

I’m fairly techy have a technical job that involves programming, data, and implementation. And I’m still on Microsoft and stock Android. It’s really not that complicated for some of us. I’m not on my phone or home computer that much, I have a mile long “to do” list. I’d love to switch over, but it’s a super low priority. Even if it would only be a few hours, that’s a few hours I could be doing anything else.

Not sure I agree with the second take. Anyone that eats meat should be ethically required to take an animals life they will eat at some point so they directly know what it means to eat meat. If someone is uncomfortable with the thought of taking an animals life, why are they eating meat and paying someone else to do their dirty work?

I eat meat, but probably not as much as most people. I have butchered livestock and hunted in the past, taking an animals life is not a pleasant thing to do.

Corporations might be largely at fault but regular people can keep voting with their dollars. Corporations have to adjust to demand.

Most of the top polluters in the world are fossil fuel producers. Want to slow them down? Stop driving ice vehicles, take public transit, bike, walk, move closer to work, or unionize and put work from home in your contract. Reduce in home energy waste, if you own a home: improve insulation, check heat loss around the edge of windows, look into solar panels. Most of these things improve you life anyway, lowering your monthly costs makes your life better.

Lobby, get involved in your community, organize.

They only have to work better and more consistently than humans to be a net positive. Which I believe most of these systems already do by a wide margin. Psychologically it’s harder to accept a mistake from technology than it is from a human because the lack of control, but if the goal is to save lives, these safety systems accomplish that.
