  • the Soviet-born historian Sergey Radchenko, whose meticulously researched To Run the World has just been published by Cambridge and argues that the USSR leadership was motivated more by historically rooted psychological insecurities than by Marxist-Leninist ideology.

Finding ways to slander the USSR, in an article that has nothing to do with the USSR. Oh Bloomberg!

For reasons that future historians will struggle to understand, the US suspended its aid to Ukraine in late 2023

The reasons are clear, the author and/or the publication just don’t want to admit them. Ukrainian corruption. Russian forces adapting and finding ways to destroy/incapacitate NATO equipment that was thought to be technologically superior, and of course Russian forces utterly beating the crap out of the vaunted “Summer counter-offensive”, which was designed, prepared and coordinated by NATO. The US and NATO cannot afford any more humiliation.

Obviously, there’s also the Republicans holding hostage the most recent aid packages until they gained concessions in other policies, but that’s just something that happened after the fact.

The result is that Kyiv listens much less to Washington than it did in 2022 and 2023 — hence the recent spate of deep drone strikes aimed at Russia’s energy infrastructure, operations that cannot possibly have been approved by Team Biden

I have to disagree here. Ukraine might gain some advantage by wrecking Russian oil refineries. But they also attacked Russian radar systems whose sole purpose is to detect incoming nuclear strikes against Russia. The only one who benefits in this case, is someone with missile-mounted nuclear warheads, like the US. It is quite likely that those recent strikes had indeed been approved by Team Biden.

Thanks to Samuel Charap and Sergey Radchenko, we know now that, when their invasion was going badly in early 2022, the Russians were ready to negotiate a peace deal with Ukraine.

We know that the invasion was not going badly at all. We know that Russia always intended to settle the whole thing peacefully, that the SMO was just a way to force Ukraine to the negotiating table quickly, and that retreating was a gesture of good will.

Any chance of a negotiated peace is vanishingly small so long as Putin believes he can win this war because the US has no staying power.

Any chance of a negotiated peace is inexistent, so long as Zelensky has made it illegal for anyone to initiate peace talks with Russia. The Russians have stated multiple times that they are willing to talk at any time. They’ve made their terms known for a while now.

If this guy is a historian, I’ll eat my hat. Events seem to be passing him by unnoticed. His only interpretation of what’s going on is Western media and the propaganda they propagate.

  • I always assumed this was the case, no?

Joker intentionally disregards authority to be funny. Gomer Pyle disregards authority because of who he is. By happenstance, the only one who is caught is Gomer Pyle, and he gets punished. Joker gets away with it and ends up getting rewarded later on too.

Gomer Pyle is the hero who resists authority and ends up dying for it. He is portrayed the way he is, so the audience disregards him, which is what the public often does with actual symbols of resistance.

Joker thinks he resists authority from within, but really, he is just getting assimilated and by the end of the movie, becomes just another soldier of the empire, perfectly willing to kill Charlie. He becomes just like the rest (or everyone deteriorates into a killer together, which is why they all sing at the end, while marching through fields on fire).

  • It’s the way they do it. China uses actually counted real numbers. US counts small areas, then multiplies numbers for a wider area. Then cooks the numbers anyway.

Recently a couple US think tanks literally used the argument that China’s numbers are unreliable because “authoritarianism” and that really they are collapsing. Then compared to completely made-up US numbers. Then came to the conclusion that the US should fight China in a war, because it will win. Shortly after, the US dispatched more carrier strike groups to China Sea.

The US economy is collapsing, and the elites know it. They are trying to cause confrontations against their rivals to buy themselves time and because in a couple decades they’ll probably no longer have the capacity to go against them militarily or diplomatically. Also, to further enrich themselves. This sort of propaganda is aimed at manufacturing consent for war.

  • Her father was an advocate for eugenics in regards to criminals and when he was in office, he appointed a bunch of Nazis around him. Her grandfather was a Nazi, but there’s been a big campaign to obscure that by presenting an SS officer with the same name and claiming it’s just a confused namesake. Her grandmother’s family was one of the biggest slave owners in South Carolina. Her whole family has been filthy rich for centuries.

Of course she will court the right-wingers. She’s one herself.

  • On a serious note:

    • The incoming missile sounds hypersonic (probably a JDAM) which is definitely not something that Hamas could construct or has fired before.

    • The speed and straight trajectory of the projectile from videos suggests that it’s nigh impossible to have been a misfire.

    • IDF and Israeli spokespeople had wildly different stories after the strike, trying to shift the blame to Hamas, suggesting they all knew it was Israel who fired that rocket, and it probably did it intentionally, but they hadn’t gotten their stories straight. Most glaring example, is the IDF video supposingly showing the Hamas rockets being fired over the hospital, and the video was timestamped 40 minutes AFTER the strike had occured at the hospital (if it was on the same day even). They then immediately deleted it as soon as they got caught. Another example is an Israeli official claiming that Israel had targeted the hospital because Hamas had used its roof to fire rockets.

You don’t need to be an expert to figure out what’s going on here:

    a) Israel is a murderous apartheid regime and this is something they have done before.

    b) Israel has wiped up its population in a murderous frenzy, and they need to satiate it.

    c) Israel has been dragging its heels on its fabled ground invasion of Gaza, with various excuses. It knows that it can’t beat Hamas on the ground, and it has been warned by Hezbollah against invading. It wouldn’t surprise me if they used this strike to satisfy their people politically, and then tell them that the US forced them to a ceasefire over this incident.

  • I have an ending for you. After the CIA’s last attempt almost kills Lois Lane, the president intervenes and stops the CIA. Clark goes to the White House to thank him. The president asks him for a little favpur in return, to help protect the US. Clark agrees. The president gives him his first assignement. Head over to a country and do something despicable, that Clark has previously uncovered that the US was lying about the subject all along.
