“Little to no bargaining power” doesn’t mean anything. You hold your boss accountable to treating you fairly. I met a kid that last year worked in a cash only Vietnamese sandwich shop. Only white kid there. He essentially unionized the place and stopped the owner from stealing their tips.

If a 20 year old can stand up to person like that when he can barely speak the language, I don’t want to hear about how a group of Americans who don’t have to fear of getting deported or send any money back home to feed their family struggle in the work environment.

It really sounds like a crazy story but he did it and probably changed some of those workers lives. And don’t even get me started on delivery fees that for whatever reason the workforce agreed shouldn’t be paid to them.

Why cash? So you can split my $5 with the other 20 staff members? Or so you can hide it from your team? If your boss is taking money from the tip pool paid through card transactions that’s illegal. You are forcing industry problems onto the customer and frankly it’s not my problem. I feel bad for you but all I have are likes and prayers. I’m not gonna let employees who are scared to hold their employers accountable to guilt trip me into giving them my money. 10% is extremely reasonable considering the standard for service in restaurants right now. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have to go find a staff member to get a refill.

  • At my job I deal with IT a lot for one of our server rooms since one of the computers I use that runs an entire floor is linked to that server. It often goes haywire and needs a simple reset.

I kid you not every time I call I tell them this is common and all I need them to do is reset the server remotely (I can’t get in cuz the room is locked by IT which surprise works from home). They proceed to ignore me and pull out their bullshit checklist and run through 20 different troubleshooting protocols before finally getting to the last one(reset the server) and it finally works.

Like I would think a simple reset would be the first thing they try.

This is a pet peeve of mine and I’m sorry to be taking it out on you.

Protecting your data is the biggest exercise in futility in the modern era. You are using Lemmy. I don’t care what services you pay for, someone has your data. They in turn sell it to a third party, who also sells it. The world has your data and paying money to hide your data from google is really stupid.

Unless you live in an outhouse in the woods with no internet, your data no longer belongs to you. Do you think your ISP doesn’t have your data and already sold it? Do you think your bank doesn’t have your data and already sold it? Let me guess you pay Generic VPN $10/month to protect your data. Oh you bought the Fairphone and paid extra for next day shipping so you could release your data from the clutches of google. Oh wait, you use Linux and personally hand picked every line of code so your data won’t ever be stolen.

Enough with the crap about protecting your data. It’s a scam and the money you spend every month on data protection is better spent on a fleshlight.
