You’re leaving out the substitution principle.
If a can of Spam becomes cheaper than actual meat then the CPI will substitute them as “equal”. Cheese Wiz is just as “cheese” as stuff that comes out of a cow.
CPI is nothing but a gamed statistic. It’s fake. Even then they can’t pretend all is hunky dory.
Why would a capitalist company making fake beef be any less inclined to upcharge on fake beef compared to real beef?

Fast Food does not have to be tied to a Corporation.
We have a family owned fast food local joint around the corner. Drive through only.
It pays a liveable wage, and you can still get a full great meal under $10. A young couple owns it, they are very nice.
There’s just no corporate parasite sucking out the profit.

You can be fired without cause. That is in the literal definition of “At will”
That’s why most places use “core hours” for varied schedules.
If you need collaboration then you do it from 10 AM to 2 PM. Everyone works those hours whether you leave early, or come in late. Any meetings should happen in those times.
This isn’t a difficult problem to solve.
If you can’t regularly get your job don’t with a few hours of not having immediate assistance - I feel like you probably need to rethink your processes, or who you’re employing.
Could you imagine carrying home 3 chairs of a set one-at-a-time and finding out that they just stopped selling that style?
