I mean, sure, that’s great news in a bubble. But the guy spent a good deal of his adult life running like a dog for committing no crime (in his country), this whole ordeal was a warning against further whistleblowers.

I’m a sinoboo but I’m willing to play Devil’s Advocate:

1 Urban versus rural divide is still harsh. The big cities look like they live in the future but a great deal of the nation still lives in underdeveloped areas in the countryside.

2 While a lot better than it used to be, air pollution can still be rather bad.

3 Population growth is still too low.

4 Too much of the new national wealth is tied up in real estate (which is a shitty industry for the health of a nation).

5 While it’s to prevent CIA led coups, separatist movements and/or color revolutions… the security state is rather stifling and civil rights are cast aside.

6 Poor soft power projection since the arts where largely abandoned by society with the Dengist government. They lack “anime”, or “Kpop” to push their narrative into the world. Lately the CPC has been promoting more domestically produced movies but they really need to step up their game.

7 Their LGBTQ+ rights are garbage, and honestly it’s inexcusable.

They had the chance of at least switching his VP to someone… ANYONE competent. Hell even Hillary Clinton is less shit than Harris.

In general, the US has boxed itself into a corner. It has largely deindustrialized itself (outside of weapons) and basically has the entire economy revolving around empire. There is no “Plan B”.

Even timid things like universal healthcare or public tuition can’t happen because it’ll make people less likely to join the military. It’s scary but if the US would actually commit to peace, the economy would sink to that of “undeveloped” economies. What actually exists, agriculture and the entertainment industry, that’s about it.

Not so relevant but it reminded me of something.

I remember reading a Telegram or Signal thread where Ukrainian pilots trained to fly the F-1X planes preferred their old MiGs because they say Soviet/Russian weapons and vehicles of war are built for worst-case scenario combat (aka how actual wars of defense work) where you might have to use things mothballed in some warehouse or dirty, or amateurishly calibrated or used beyond their supposed parameters because that’s war and Moscow has to account for a scenario where they have to dig in and fight a bloody, miserable battle like Leningrad. Whereas American weapons and vehicles are made for best-case scenario combat because they’re designed for offensive war and lets be real are successful based on how well the weapons manufacturers present their offers to the DoD.

But because they simply need more planes, and obviously Russia won’t sell them new ones, they have to put on a show and suck the Americans dick for the F-16s because they don’t have much better options.

There is no real rebellion while within the American Empire, only performative gestures are allowed like when Canada and Western European countries dissented with the US during the Invasion of Iraq but they secretly sent troops, weapons and vehicles of war to show the US their allegiance.

Tbf the governor says that isn’t happening.

You know there was a time when I legitimately thought the Democrats were at least less shitty than the Republicans but even at that low low bar, I’m not so sure anymore.

Even in a very liberal university, whenever (outside of very niche courses) mentioned communism it was always the most insane propaganda. I can only imagine what madness they’ll teach in Florida. Hopefully it’ll backfire like D.A.R.E. but let’s see.

And forget about the ones like V*ush that call themselves socialist and denounce agitation and that the only path to revolution is to vote Democrats harder than ever.

So weird the elites keep lowering the bar of what a “luxury” is.

Sorry Europe, especially Western Europe, your prosperity came at the cost of riding the coattails of the Empire… so you being devoured by the Empire to nourish itself was always in the cards.

Which is sad/funny because the American federal government really can’t run out of money. It could hypothetically run out of resources, sure, but US dollars can buy any raw material anywhere and even then the land we stole from the indigenous nations happens to be some of the most resource rich in the world. The government could easily spend tens of trillions to create bleeding edge infrastructure and simply chooses not to.
