There is still a utopia though, it has just been tested and they failed some of the tests and now they’re trying to rebuild.
It’s back to basics hopeful, a society trying to live up to it’s ideals again.

But the underground society seemed to be more about finding their own version of freedom rather than outright exclusion.
In a world with super aids they still wanted to raw dog it.

But the jump to 1080p was much less noticeable, to the point that people just thought its no different than 720p.
What!?
Unless it’s animated and even then depending on the art style, I can immediately clock the difference between 1080 and 720. It is another huge leap.
1080 to 4k though when sitting on the couch are basically the same.

Just don’t give the TV your wifi password, boom dumb TV.

So they’re evil for catering to their customers?
If you don’t like that in movies don’t watch their movies…
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying, re social constructs having some basis in reality, but the problem I have is the sort of appearance based aspect of it, most of the toughest most manly looking men I know are actually socially anxious teddy bears and the most “strength, willingness to physically protect others, usually valuing rationality over emotionality” people I know are 5’4 women.
Like the archetypes make sense, but the social construct is pointlessly gendered…

I mean it does suck, but it sucks less than anything else we have.

Cory Doctorow is a writer who I want to love, i like the plot descriptions of his work and he seems like a really smart and with it person, but his writing style just doesn’t spark joy. It feels like work. IDK how to describe it, I just can’t get in the flow with his writing.

Maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t it trivial to take it out of their bullshit dangerous “FSD” mode and take control? How does a car go approximately 40-50 feet down the tracks without the driver noticing and stopping it?

I get you, but as someone who just started with the litrpg genre because i avoided it due to the people who liked it, I’m just saying that sometimes you may be missing something you love because most of the people who like it are dumb and most of the genre is garbage.
Correlation vs causation.
Yes, big bang is dumb, but just to pull a famous example Paul Ryan likes Rage against the Machine, sometimes people can feel a beat even if they can’t hear the lyrics.
HR is literally just corporations though, it’s already in the picture…
BBT is a bad show, but that’s not a good reason not to watch it, that’s just a dumb person who can only relate to reality through media references.
Just to be clear I’m not saying to watch it, but that a stupid person liking something isn’t a reason to reject the thing…

It works now, even if later he gets tired of it and walks away it still works now.

I use notepad++ like most sensible people so I didn’t even know this was a thing until I read this article and even then, you have to click the button to get the pop up. It definitely should be opt in and not just sitting there, but if you’re just trying to write a quick note it’s not just popping up and stopping you.
That’s how I felt about half way through the pilot, I said to my partner “I don’t think I can handle a grimdark trek,” but then they started introducing the actual premise of the show, how starfleet had a dark time, but was now rebuilding and reaffirming it’s ideals.
I personally liked the vibe, it felt hopeful. Dark times don’t last forever and things do get better, but still leave an impact.
