Why is it that whenever a corporation loses or otherwise leaks sensitive user data that was their responsibility to keep private, all of Lemmy comes out to comment about how it’s the users who are idiots?
Except it’s never just about that. Every comment has to make it known that they would never allow that to happen to them because they’re super smart. It’s honestly one of the most self-righteous, tone deaf takes I see on here.
I’m pretty sure they don’t get paid anywhere near what they’re worth. Same old story in the US: anything that’s important to society, has to do with people’s health, safety, education, and so on.
I truly don’t understand the college students who are paying insane tuition to be there to get a degree and they couldn’t care less. I don’t know if their parents are forcing them to go to college or what.
I know there is a shortage at the moment, but I feel your pain for another reason. I am an addict in recovery with add and I will never be able to take medication because the minute I even try to talk about my issues it’s “drug seeking.” But people I know who need to take controlled substances like benzodiazapines who are not addicts in recovery? They’re still treated like drug addicts, even when they have nothing in their medical history that would suggest that, and they never ask for refills early etc.
The opioid crisis drove us so far in the opposite direction that people who truly need a drug can’t get it, and drugs can’t be prescribed for the issues they were literally invented to help.
Also, Stratera is a non-narcotic option. It didn’t seem to do much, but may be worth a try if she hasn’t tried it yet.
There should be regulation of the private sector. There has to be some accountability for these corporations. The onus can’t be on the consumer one hundred percent of the time. It really shouldn’t be at all. Buyers should only be responsible for deciding which products would be best for them and their budget, not for having to predict which corporation will utterly fuck them over the least out of the only three corporations they have to choose from when they’re all trying to scam them out of their money.
I’m so sick of being scammed every single time I buy something. The government needs to step in and do their job instead of just handing out a few fines here and there.

The best parents in the world still can’t control what their kids are doing every second of every day. Kids will always find ways around every single thing that’s meant to restrict what they can do, see, or hear. I’m sure you never did stuff you weren’t supposed to when you were a kid…right?
I wonder why none of us paid subscriptions to access websites in the 90s and early 2000s? We all used MySpace, FB, LiveJournal, Make Out Club, Hot or Not, Geocities, Angelfire, NeoPets, MSN messenger, AOL messenger, the millions of chat rooms. Etc etc. We paid for time on the internet itself (like we still do) but at least then you could find one of those AOL CD ROMs with free minutes just about anywhere. You couldn’t escape them.
There also weren’t that many ads, just some banners at the top. There were web rings and stuff to advertise each other’s sites. But it seems like once pop-up ads started, you couldn’t get rid of them ever again. There weren’t browser extensions or anything, pretty much just anti virus software you had to go to Frys to buy.
I think this whole post sounds astroturfed by people pushing the idea that workers being denied jobs is a good thing. At least I hope it is, because otherwise that means people actually believe that.
Let’s face it, the only reason we get by is because rich people need our labor.

The Canary Effect is an amazing documentary about the genocide of Indigenous peoples in North America. It is free on YT. It was where I first learned how brutal the reality was and how devastating to the population. It also shows how it meets the UN definition of genocide. Amazing how we are raised in the US and this is not only ignored in history class, but is instead framed as Indigenous people living happily in Spanish missions and having Thanksgiving with pilgrims.
If you get a chance to read about John Trudell, he had a fascinating life. He was the spokesman for the American Indian Movement when they occupied Alcatraz in protest of the US breaking their land treaty. The government did not stop terrorizing him and his family after that. There’s also an amazing documentary about him but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it. I think it may just be called “John Trudell.”
Both of these will make you walk away angry though.
I bought a new cable just to use it in a rental car. I had to keep switching between Bluetooth and the cable because my music would only work on one and maps on the other. Then the phone wouldn’t work while charging, so I just drove in silence for hours so it wouldn’t die on me because then I’d be really lost. After multiple rental cars and multiple cables, I’ve never had even a decent experience with it and it pisses me off to no end. It just crosses the line into actually being dangerous on top of being inconvenient.
I’m sure the average person is totally capable of doing that, or even knowing about it /s. Jfc.
