Kind of weird to imply that selfish pleasure seeking leads to being gay… Seems more likely that when they learned the harmful social tradition that being gay is bad, they fixated on it because it was something they were “struggling” with so it became what their brains go to in morality talks and sticks out more among the other “sins”. Who at what company is having the conversation “let’s do (generic pattern)” without facing some kind of problem or inherent design need that can be solved by (generic pattern). Do these companies need software developers or did they just notice that all of the other companies have them? Surely some sort of inherent needs are driving their software.

Because bits of culture like games can lack cultural equivalence even in the most similar example. And because Nintendo is so bad at being the stewards of this culture that the best way to experience it is only possible illegally.

And you can argue that it’s not Nintendo’s job to be a steward of cultural artifacts, but they are indeed cultural artifacts whether Nintendo treats them that way or not and good stewards will find their way to it.

Then, in my opinion, the moral choice for how to consume the content is via its best steward. If that choice results in less money being put back into the development of similar artifacts maybe the developer needs less power (money) with which to shape the cultural landscape.

I agree that this was a great episode. The relationship between the leader and his backward aide was done beautifully and it was really poignant how the aide got his way by proving he’s a jackass.

Late ds9 is my absolute favorite so clearly you are an individual of profound taste.
