Awesome, I love it.
The flying saucers look so… retro futurist?

In my experience syncthing is always a bit like that using the default discovery settings.
I use a hub & spoke set up now. Instead of A, B, and C all connecting to each other directly, they only connect to D. I also input the address for D specifically instead of using discovery servers.
With this set up I’ve never had any drama.
Perhaps. I think consumers are more willing to pay producers than they have been in the past. I acknowledge that the time is not yet right, but with time, the less appealing youtube is the more likely alternatives will become.
This is saddening.
I know the invidious contributors have been working on this over the last few months. Looks like they finally got there only to have youtube slam the door. That’s a real gut punch.
I already switched to running an instance at home instead of my VPS, so this news doesn’t change much for me personally but it’s a demonstration that youtube is actively seeking to block the project.
As with reddit / lemmy, I doubt a viable alternative will emerge until youtube has become well and truly offensive.
I really wish more youtube producers would cross post to other platforms.
Yeah. It would trigger a shit storm in 10 years time we wouldn’t spend all day every day talking about the day we found out aliens existed, we would be talking about the ongoing wars arising as a result of their tech or some other thing.
I have no idea but the usual playbook would be:
One bad apple resigns in disgrace. Bot farm closed. Start new bot farm.
That’s subjective.
My point is, I just don’t care.
I just don’t really feel the need to justify my piracy.
I watch pirate movies and tv and I don’t feel a teeny tiny bit of remorse, nor interest in whether it’s ethical.
There are very very few youtubers I world like to support.
This is the solution.
All names have problems but this one has the least.
No it’s not. You personally might like it but if it were the consensus people would use it and this question wouldn’t be asked every week.
There’s never been any consensus that I’m aware of. All the suggestions are cringey.
We’re just users.
Define “the internet” though…
If you’re expecting “the internet” to fill your cup with joy then sure, that’s probably not going to work out.
That said, there’s plenty of good bits that make life a lot easier.
Sure mate.
You’re suggesting that showing videos in a town square is the same as posting in Twitter? They’re not the same, obviously.
It’s complex and I don’t have the answers. My comment is merely hilighting the conflict between these 2 ideals… governments shouldn’t whether or not specific content is ok, but companies shouldn’t provide content which is clearly unacceptable.
If xitter didn’t provide that content the government wouldn’t have to intervene.
If the government does intervene it reduces the barrier for them to intervene in future.
I’m quite conflicted about this.
I hate musk. Hate twitter. Hate that people were sharing videos of a terrorist attack.
That said, I suspect that this was something of a test case, with the regulator flexing their censorship muscle, and I’m glad it didn’t work out.
It’s also disappointing that her kids were doxxed, I don’t condone that at all… but “just doing my job” is not a reasonable defence when you have a shitty job strategising how to corrode privacy.
Similar here. I’m an accountant by trade but tech is my strongest hobby.
Not really. The “file types” you’re talking about are expected to contain whatever things in a very specific format.
You’re really just saying “many file types use an efficient and common compression algorithm”. Which is correct, obvious, and to be expected.
