Gonna call this one an L. Having done drugs and eaten candy, they are not the same. I do not consume drugs for the same reason I consume candy. I take ibuprofen for head aches, I drink coffee to wake up, and I take weed to mellow out or sleep better. On the other hand, I eat candy because it tastes good. These are nowhere near the same.

For comedy entertainment and peekaboo, the similarities stop at “they make you laugh”. That’s the only similarity.

I fully agree with your first point, but I do actually see some merit to the connection between adult comedy and peekaboo. Not only do both make the audience laugh, but they do so because of something unexpected and novel to the audience. Often a silly performance can be hilarious (see comedians like Robin Williams or Jim Carrey) in a similar way to funny faces and sounds to babies.

Shit. Peekaboo would probably be funny today if we hadn’t already seen that joke a thousand times.

Maybe, but I think the lack of object permanence also greatly contributes to why the punchline is so unexpected and funny.

I’m recognizing how many of the behaviors we see in adults are reflective of newer, upgraded forms of the same behavjor patterns of babies, despite adults often thinking of themselves as serious and mature. It’s funny to think of adults as grown babies sometimes.

I mean… sure, there are similarities between the activities in the sense that they’re all escapism in one shape or another, but I wouldn’t associate American Pie with Cow & Chicken* (edited in as a better example, as they even share a certain kind of lewdness), for instance. Nor would I think that a KitKat is the same as a joint.

It’s always all down to brain chemistry and changing it through various external stimuli/substances in essence, but I strongly believe that each type of escapism and escapist stimulus generate their own, very specific effects.

Adults are just children, though, yes. 100% agree with you on that!

Reasonably certain candy is candy for adults. The bleak fact of the modern day is that adults rely on everything from coffee to cocaine to steroids to LSD to generate profit for their bosses as often as not.

Meanwhile, I’ll spot you a lot of the over-hyped Cable TV / YouTube tier comedy is baby branded. But there are an ample number of quality comedians. They just aren’t the industry plants who need 24/7/365 marketing campaigns to get people to pay attention to them.

The person using the drugs is already a dumbass in this case.

Getting baked and watching a shitty mainstream comedy doesn’t make it entertaining to the drug user. That’s basic stereotyping marketed to idiots and the idiot act the way they think they should act because they were marketed that idea, or they already are that.
