Toby Maguire was 26 years old when he began playing Spider-Man. Tom Holland is currently 29.

Which is why he still gets a pass, because Spider-Man is supposed to be a kid

He’s a kid for a few years. He’s in college by the time Marvel decides they need to have a more flexible timeline in the mid sixties.

Debateably you could call college students “kids”, but only in the same way a grumpy old man calls anyone younger than him a kid.

Most of his existence he’s been an adult.

Shouldn’t you be comparing 18yrs old to 26yrs old? Holland started playing Spider-Man when he was 18yrs old, people age, just as McGuire did.

When I saw Tom Holland my immediate thought was that he looked exactly like Toby, especially as the two costumes are now VERY similar.

I still think of Tom Holland as young, so I was surprised to learn he is older than Toby was when he donned the same outfit.

Ah, I think that’s 100% what they are going for. Both of these people will be around the same point in their age story wise, granted one has about 4 more years of story experience.
