The fifth general assembly of the Association of Burkinabe of Georgia (ABGA) was held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Atlanta. The “One Burkinabe, One Bag of Cement” project was launched during this meeting.

Founded on September 22, 2019, the Association of Burkinabe of Georgia (ABGA) aims to bring together Burkinabe nationals living in the state of Georgia (United States). To this end, it organized its fifth general assembly on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Atlanta, with the program: presentations of the board members, speeches by officials, recreational activities, and community exchanges.

The main objective of this meeting was to take stock of the moral and financial activities carried out during the year 2024–2025. Several initiatives were launched on this occasion, including the “One Burkinabe, One Bag of Cement” project, intended to collect funds to support the Presidential Initiative “Faso Mêbo.” According to ABGA President Joël Zombré, any Burkinabe, whether a member of the association or not, can contribute to this solidarity action. The price of a bag of cement has been set at $15 (8,374.95 CFA francs), based on the current value of the currency.

The call for general mobilization to welcome the Burkina Faso ambassador to the United States, General Kassoum Coulibaly, expected in the region on August 23 and 24, 2025, was the other highlight of the meeting.

“The ambassador is currently touring the United States. His visit to our region is an opportunity to listen to him and convey our grievances,” said Joël Zombré.

As a reminder, former ABGA president Issa Naon was elected delegate to the High Council of Burkinabe Abroad (HCBE) for Zone B on January 31, 2025. This zone includes nine states: Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The HCBE delegate represents the Burkinabe of this region at the Embassy of Burkina Faso in the United States.

“Our role is to bring the voice of the Burkinabe community in Zone B to the embassy, and if possible, to our motherland, Burkina Faso,” said Mr. Naon. At the end of the ceremony, Ndé Tedonzong Tchoutezo, a member of the association, affectionately known as “the dean,” welcomed the ABGA initiative. He emphasized the solidarity of members with the newcomers and encouraged officials to promote the integration of the entire African community.

“Burkina Faso is at the heart of Africa’s interests. It is seen as a leader by those who wish the continent well,” he said. For her part, Bintou Sana, the association’s resource person, reiterated the importance of this meeting in strengthening ties between Burkinabe living in Georgia. She invited the country’s daughters and sons to join ABGA for greater social cohesion. Membership fees have been set at $5 (2,751.63 CFA francs), with a monthly contribution of $10 (5,583.3 CFA francs) to support the association’s activities.
